I have been paying alot of attention to the trans fat ect on the labels. Do you really read the labels? Or do you go through the store just picking out whatever you want? I was looking at fritos and how much transfat is a serving of ten. How many people only eat ten at one time?

I always read every nutitional label and these are the deciding factors on which brand of the item I will purchase not the price.

Pye...I get the same feeling when I am carefully reading the label but being a person who does not give a damn what other people think of me I'll keep on reading them.

Hi whiteheather. People in supermarkets must think I'm batty as I'm always reading labels. I avoid anything with High Fructose Corn Syrup for instance. To save money I used to buy generic label mayonnaise for instance until I was aware it has HFCS--now I get Hellman's...yeah, has sugar in it, but rather that than HFCS

I constantly check nutrition labels. For fat, sugar content, sodium content, how many servings are actually in the package I'm looking at...

Yes, everytime I purchase something I do. If I see MSG or Aspartame, I do not purchase it.

I never get the time to read all the labels on any food that i buy from the shop as i have 5 children and 2 adults i have to buy food for and i usually do internet shopping so that it gets home delivered so i do not even get chance to read it when i am putting it away.

What is the best place to do online grocery shopping? Do they limit which states they will deliver to? Appreciate the information!

No I don't. Those things confuse me big time! I just eat whatever and however much I want. So I pay attention to what has suger and what has no suger. I think I know pretty much out of head that something is not good for you at all. I go by what I think I should eat what I shouldn't eat.

I wanted to know what I was eating. How many chemicals, preservatives and how much trans fat. My cholesterol is too high and some of my other numbers are off too. I am reading all the labels and have gone more towards natural!

We have this wonderful traffic light system now in use on foods, where you can see from a glance how healthy the food is, for example if you see red it's high in fat, orange is medium and green is low. I think it's a great idea, so you can usually see quickly whether a food is good for you healthwise. It also gives the percentage as well so you know which foods to avoid, although it doesn't stop me from buying my ice cream and that as you can imagine is well in the red LOL!

That is an excellent system. I wish they would do that here as well. I think moderation is the secret on the ice cream! lol Easier said than done, but you would be proud because I have not had junk food in almost a month! I am excercising and I am getting into shape!

I'm a real stickler for reading those nutrition labels, not so much for the trans fat angle though I do be aware, but the High Fructose Corn Syrup. I did research on that and did an article about it...from what I read about HFCS one has to be nuts to eat or drink anything with it as it can trigger a whole host of health problems..alas, I had to give up a LOT of foods and drinks...it's even in ketchup and most juices.

Is it true that it is also a bioengineered food? Yes, I am avoiding it also. I have made major changes in my diet. It does make you feel better. Appreciate the response!

When I found out that I have high cholestral I did alot..now I kind of know what's in what so don't pay as much attention as I probably should....once in a while I sneak a peek to see how many calories and what a serving consists of....I should do it all the time.

Yes, in fact I do. But it's not because I want to see how much of what is in it, but instead I compare them with other brands. To see which has the biggest cholesterol or sugar. It's a tool for me to choose between brands.

I read them carefully! I'm concerned about nutrition and health and only by reading labels can I make good decisions. For instance, you'd be shocked at how much sodium is in most canned and frozen foods, which isn't very good for you!

If you do not watch all this, than you will have a doctor tell you that you have to. It is much better to be in control of it, than having to take pills because your numbers are too high in your bloodwork!

a few years ago I took a nutrition class and it was amazing. I learned so much about what nutrition labels really mean. Like did you know the ingredients are listed in order of amount put in the product! A lot of times when you think your getting one thing theirs a total other thing. Another thing labels dont tell you is its 4 calories for every carb and protein and 9 cals for every bit of fat in the product. Sometimes items calories are rounded down or up (usually down) so they are consitantly deciving you. If you read on a can of chicken noodle soup the top ingridenet is normally chicken broth or water. Not something of substance like it should be.

I never used to until recently. i dont know why. maybe im just getting more health conscious as i get older. i think if i were eating more natural food products and not so many processed foods full of additives i wouldn't care so much.

If you learn to see how the portion sizes are listed, it is shocking how much transfat and all other is consumed. This is something we have to be educated about. People get very sick and die simply for lack of knowledge.
