me and my girl are together for quite some time now. 3 years and 6 months to be exact. we're planning to tie the knot soon as we can afford to have a family. funny thing is i don't know what's the difference in appearance between an engagement ring and a wedding ring. so anybody can tell me the difference?

Engagement ring is always different from a wedding ring. Engagement usually has a stone in the middle, a kind of stone that symbolizes love, compassion and your deepest devotion to the one you love. Usually precious gems like Diamond, ruby and sapphire are most stones used in engagement rings, it differs in shape and sizes also than the standard wedding ring. For example most celebrities and high society women wear engagement rings with a solitary princess cut diamond, it maybe silver color, gold or white gold, the stone size can be large of medium, but it should be on top of the band. I've seen most European royals wear different engagement ring, for instance Prince Charles of England gave his future wife, Lady Diana Spencer in February 1981 a magnificent oval shaped sapphire ring surrounded with 18 diamonds which valued at that time with $75,000. His younger brother Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, proposed to Sarah Ferguson with a ring with ruby in it. Prince Joachim of Denmark gave his future wife Marie (his second wife) with mixed stones of amethyst and diamond. But wedding ring has a standard shape and size, it should be a band either in white gold, gold or silver, it may comes in simple with no decoration of a stone or it may have few little diamond stones in front and it should be carved with names of both of you.
