Did you have your own bedroom?...

Did you have your own bedroom while growing up?... or did you share with your siblings or other relatives?... In my country... it is very rare for a child to have his or her own room... since most houses have only like 1 or two bedrooms... family members have to share a room and even a bed... I remember when i was young... i shared 1 bedroom with my two sisters... when we were very young... we slept in one bed but when we got a little bigger... my parents decided to buy one single bed and a double decker bed... so we shared a room but got our own bed and that was so cool during that time... then when my uncles got married... my older sister moved in to their room... and when she got married... i inherited that... which was like heaven to me... because at last i got my own place where i can place all my things and even get new stuff for my very own room... I am not afraid to sleep alone... in fact i preferred that because i love my privacy... how was it when you were growing up... did you have your own room?... or just your own bed?...

I didn't get my own bedroom until I was in the 4th grade, so that was around 9 years old. Until that time I had to share a bedroom (but not a bed) with my little brother. He's 2 years younger than me. It was great getting my own room, all that privacy, all my own toys all over the place! LOL

Kids that age should definitely have their own bedroom... as long as they can sleep along at night... it must have been fun just seeing all your toys all over the place... the room i have was very small... but i really like it the way it was... Thanks for the response...

I have one sister, and she is two years older. We shared a bedroom until I was four and she was six. That was when we moved into a three bedroom house and we each got our own room. My dad never got his own room though! He was the 15th of 16 children. So he not only shared a room, but shared a bed with two of his brothers.

When I was growing up, I shared the bed with any of my siblings. Actually, they were just mattresses and places on the floor so that we can sleep when its time to sleep or just lie down to get some rest. As much as it would be nice to have your own room with everything you own and a place to consider yours, I haven't experienced that at all, up to now. But, that's okay. I have grown accustomed to sharing space with my siblings and the things that we separately own are each recognized by each other, well, my two older sisters would argue sometimes about clothes they share and I seem to also have this disapproval when my older brothers would wear the clothes that I own. Anyway, by the time I do get to have my own room, which I hope to be soon, I would really appreciate it and design things in it to really express myself in some way or another.

Well, those were the days... when we actually fought like cats and dogs with our sibling becuase of petty things like clothes and shoes... but looking back... it was actually nice sharing a room with them... but them... i really love my own space...

Yeah, thinking about how we were back then and comparing to how we have grown now does get you thinking of things. We have either changed for the better or for another. Of course, you'd really get to value your own space after experiencing the advantages and disadvantages of sharing space with other people.

I used to share with my grandma the same room but with different beds. I really miss those moments because we would talk, laugh and whatnot. Nowadays, I have my own room but I still remember those days vividly.

Well, that is life in the Philippines... we get to share a bedroom with different members of the family... even with aunts, uncles, cousins, and grand parents... there were fun moments and even not so fun ones... but it is nice to dwell on the former... Thanks for the response...

I have never had my own room ever. lol. When I was growing up, I was sharing a room with my 2 sisters, just like you.. we had one single bed and a double deck, then the double deck was scrapped for a queen size bed.. when I went to college, I lived in my aunt's house, there I shared a room with my cousins. After that, i went to work, and I shared an apartment with my big brother and sister.. I only had a room like 3 months in my life.. lol, actually what I had was the whole apartment, that was when both my brother and sister were out of the country, so I had the apartment to myself. I loved it.. I love living alone.. And now, I'm trying to save so that I can have a place of my own.

I hope you can finally be able to have your own place... a condo with one or two rooms will be perfect for you... it is so nice to have a lot of space and privacy... since you can do a lot of things without thinking if it is okay with the others... Thanks for the response...

I had my own room up until college when I had to get a roommate. I really enjoy both ways. I liked having my own room and my own space but I also liked having a roommate because it was nice to have the company. I was lucky to have the own room because I had two brothers, they shared a room all growing up and I remember listening to them fight constantly over space. I even remember them putting tape down the middle of the room!

Putting a tape in the middle of the room did not happen with me and my sisters because it would be difficult to divide the room into three... you must have great room mates... because i know of some who were not that lucky... Thanks for the response...

hello aseretdd, since we are five children in the family and we have only three bedrooms i together with two brothers shared a bedroom. we only have one bed during that time since we graduated from high school. same thing when we were in college for renting the whole house was expensive. i shared the room with my brother. not until i'm already working, that was the only time that we can afford to rent the whole house. and finally i have my own bedroom for myself. just fine though to share the room with brother but at least i was able to try to have my own room.

It is always nice to try new things... especially trying to have your very own bedroom... when we can't afford to have our own... it isn't too bad to share with siblings as long as you get along with them really fine... Thanks for the response...

Yes you're right my friend. When I was young I never had a room of my own..well I had an old bed but in one room. I was sleeping alone with that bed since I already big enough that it was only me could accommodate based on the size of the bed. Some of us just sleeping on our wooden floor...that was the usual situation in our province. You seldom see a house that some of their family members has their own room for their privacy. Better for our dog he has his own room (his cage)..he he he

Well, i wouldn't want to live in a cage... and i don't think dogs really crave privacy... i had my own share of sleeping on the floor when we were young... but life improved as we grew older... so we eventually got our own bed... and then our own room.... Thanks for the response...

Their was 6 of us kids growing up, and we only had 5 bed rooms in the house, my mom and dad had one for themselves, and i was lucky and had one to my self because i was the only girl until my sister came along but i was already 15. the other 3 rooms went to my 4 brothers. when my sister was old enough for her own room she got mine because i got my own place when i was 17.

I was just like you. I grew up sharing my bedroom with my three sisters. Although there were four of us there, it wasn't really cramped because our bedroom was big. I often thought back then that I wish my parents would just divide the big room into four small rooms. But that never happened. Now my sisters are all married and I'm the only one who's still single, so I have my own bedroom now. It's really nice having my own bedroom because I'm the type of person who loves her privacy.

Hahaa... you're right! It WAS like heaven having your own bedroom where you could at last have some privacy. My eldest brother was lucky. Since he was the only son, he did not have to share a bedroom. I shared a bedroom with my younger sis and both of my older sis shared theirs when we were still schooling with our own single beds. Then, my parents decided to renovate the house and each of us got our own room. Yayyy!!! Even though it's not spacious, but it was more than enough. Finally, I have my own room and as a young adult, I needed my own space as part of growing up.

I am an only child and because of that, I always have the room for myself. But when I was in high school, I shared a room with my cousin because I moved in to my aunt's house that time. Now, I stay in a dormitory near the university for me to easily go to school. My parents are both working abroad so during weekends, I stay at our house - just me and the housekeeper. And yes, I have my own room and I don't go out that much when I am home.

No, I'm not. I am already used to it. I couldn't even imagine myself with siblings! Haha. I am happy with it in a way and I don't really complain about anything especially not living with my parents. And yes, I could get privacy as much as I want. It's good that way :) Take care!

Yes, I do have my own bed room while growing up. Being the only child under my grandparents care, I was showered with so much blessing including the privilege of having my own room. I am from the Philippines too and I guess I'm one of those few person who has been blessed to have that luxury. :)

I only had brothers, so I had my own space. When I was small we didn't have a house, just one long narrow room, but mum hung sheets up for privacy, and to get to the other side of the sheet we would say "Knock, knock" aloud and then wait for an answer before going through because you can't knock on a sheet like you would on a door.

We had a 5 bedroom house. My parents were in one bedroom, my sister and I shared a room, my brothers shared a room and my great great uncle had a room. The 5th bedroom was a den. When Uncle moved to a nursing home, I thought, being the oldest that I might get my own room, but instead my parents knocked out a wall and made the den larger.

hi aseretdd, thanks for post the discussion,it's interesting. when i was a child, there were only three bedrooms in our house, one is my parents, one is my brother's,the left one is for my sister and me,i shared one bed with her, when i was before 11,i didn't care about this, but when i was growing up,i wanted my own room very much. when i was 14 age,my sister married and i had my own bedroom at last,i felt so happy and free,i could see books at night and listen music at any time, nobody can interrupt me. but this good time didn't last too long, when i was 15 age,i went to a school where is far away from my home,i had to share bedroom with 10 classmates, only when i spent my summer or winter holidays,i could enjoy my own room at home.
