I have seen many people keeping personal pictures in the work station. I don't like to do it. I don't prefer to club work place with personal life. I don't like the idea of mingling work and personal life. Similarly, I don't take any tensions or problems related to my work or work place to home. If I leave a picture of my family on my desk, I may keep looking at it and it will start disturbing my work. Do you keep pictures of you or your family on your work place desk?

I prefer not to keep any pictures on my work desk as it would distract and disturb me, and secondly it takes up space on my already small desk. I do not like to put personal stuffs on my working desks too. Cheers.

I don't really like to put personal things on my work place desk. But, I have seen many people doing it. I think it is not that nice to mix personal life and work. But, I have seen many westeners are open to jokes and they talk about personal affairs during serious business talks. Once one of my client person told me that he is going to pub after the meeting. It depends from person to person.

Hello, Daliaj, I kept my son's photo on the computer desktop. I do not feel it disturbing my work, on the contrary, I found it's a kind of encouragement, that makes me work harder. I love him so much! And I would like to spend what I have to offer him a better life. Have a nice day and happy mylotting.

Thanks for sharing your view with mylotters. It is very good if the picture of your son motivates you to do a good job. That is a nice way to look at it. In my office also many people keep their kids and spouse pictures on their work station desk. They may find it as a good thing which helps them to work in a better way. Happy mylotting.

I always kept a picture of my children on my desk. It reminded me of why I was working. Most of my co-workers were parents so we shared a common bond. If I have to sit down to do business with someone, not just someone I work with, (even in a bank or something) when I see pictures of children or a spouse, it makes me feel like I am talking to a person like me not just someone who is interested only in my money. We make some small talk about the children and it breaks the ice. It is easier to talk business after that.

It is good to have those ice breaking sessions. I live in India, but all our clientss are from America. I found that most of the westerner talk personal things and it breaks ice during my conference calls and meetings with them. But, in my country we think it is awakward to talk about personal affaris when you are seriously dealing with business.

No, I think of family pictures as for private purposes. I could keep a pictures of them inside my wallet. I do not like to leave family photos on my desk as the offices should be keep away from personal lives.

I'm with you on this one, Daliaj! I also do not like bringing details of my personal life into the office. Perhaps if it was a smaller set up, I may have felt differently. But I work in a large office, where I don't know many of my colleagues. So, I would feel awkward to bring in personal effects and share them with strangers. Also, it can be quite painful to continuously look at pictures of loved ones, especially if one is far away from them. So, no, I don't, and I have never kept pictures of loved ones on display at work.
