Have you ever been told bluntly that you are not capable of doing something?

I have just very recently, though the person told me that she didn't intend to insult me, I was insulted. In turn, I thought she didn't really have the right to tell me so because she didn't show that she was capable of doing that same thing either. Have you ever been told bluntly about not being capable of doing something? Has the comment discouraged you from trying anyways? or has it challenged you to do better? What do you usually do when someone looks down on you?

of course if i can not be able to do something i will tell others bluntly.i never care about someone looks down on me for i can not do something well.because i know i need to improve myself on that now, maybe others will do it better and i will learn form others.not everyone is good enough can do everything perfectly.so just keep confident and be yourself.it is enough for me.

True enough. But sometimes when we hear something like that unexpectedly, it makes us feel that we might not be good enough for something after all. But yeah, it's better to show them instead that you are really worth it.

The "no offense" comment is BS!! I never understood why people say that and then blatantly say something offensive. "Find another damn way to make your point!!" Yes, I've been told countless times that I cant do something. It makes me feel horrible, then I get really pissed off and do whatever I can to prove to them that I can in fact do what they said I cant.

I get told this all the time. It is partly why I am so hard on myself and so down a lot.

Hi laydee You know it really depends how bad someone has put me down. If another friend or co worker tells me that I can't do it right or don't know how then I will push myself to do it. But on the other hand I also have been in situations to where the person made me feel like I didn't belong and that hurt. I didn't try to learn, I just walked away like a whipped pup. Good discussion..

Of course you would feel insulted, laydee, who wouldn't? I absolutely hate being told that I can't do something, or I shouldn't do something. Usually I will do it anyway and try to prove them wrong. Sometimes this works out very well, and I feel vindicated. Sometimes I fall flat on my face, but I feel better because at least I tried. Also, consider the source. Sometimes people put you down just to cover up their own feelings of inadequacy. Sometimes they are just jealous, petty people. You know your own capabilities, don't let anyone tell you what you are and are not capable of doing.
