I have two dogs. Both are "rescue dogs". First off, do you trim your dog's toe nails? If so, how often? One of our dogs doesn't mind it at all, but it's a struggle with the other one ..... she keeps trying to trim them herself, instead of letting us do it.

We trim our dog's nails, however my wife is a groom and we have a time of it also. we had these dogs since 8 weeks and the blonde Bouvier since birth. the big male we have no trouble, but he likes to hide his paws. The puppy doesn't like her nails ,she watched her mother, she had to be held up against the wall and acted like we where killing her. However she would let my wife put nail polish and file her nails, go figure...We do it 1ce a month or less.. REMEMBER ALWAYS LUV/ CARE FOR YOUR DOG/ PET, THEY WILL ALWAYS LUV U..

I think it's because girls like to be made up, but always want to look "perfect" for their guys! Who knows? Our Blue Heeler hates getting her nails done, but our Chow/Sheltie mix adores it ...... maybe because she loves her dad so much, and just adores having even more time with him!

Hi Mrsctb We didn't trim my dog Jade's nails because she wouldn't let us she would try to bit at your hands when we tried to do it so we just decided to leave it up to the groomers to do it for us a lot less headache She was pretty high strung and she just would not sit still for us and she hated anyone taking her paw unless she gave it to you LOL She was very friendly and loved to play her favorite game of tug of war with her towel and favorite sock Now giving her a bath could be an experience sometimes she loved it and was quite calm and well behaved sometimes she just would try and run all over the place so we had to end up chaining her the deck post to give her the bath but she didn't like the initial water that we had to soak her with but after we got to scrubbing those ears ,back and belly she just loved it Occasionally we would just take her to the groomer to get both her nails and bath it made no difference though she would just run right outside and roll around in the dirt as soon as she came homethat used t irritate me a bit LOL

I think it depends on the dog, and especially on the breed. I know I've heard of dogs whose nails grew so fast they were curling around, but since I grew up with outdoor dogs, I guess with them running around, they just "normally" wore down their own nails. Maybe it's the cushy indoor living that causes us to care more for them now, huh?
