I donate blood often. After they go through all the paper work, go over it with you and check you to be sure that you can healthfully give blood you will be layed down on a table bed. You really dont feel pain. Just a small pinch and almost a tickle when they place the needle in. Then you will have to keep squeezing a stress ball or other object they give you which makes the needle feel a little weird in your arm but it does not hurt.
When its over you may feel a little light headed, which is why you have to sit and eat and drink afterward. Your arm may be stiff for a few hours later and you may get a bruise but you should be just fine.

I never did that, just because of them . Last year i`ve been to that center and i`ve told them that i wanna donate my blood . They have told me that i should bring something from my doctor ; that i need to donate 500ml of blood ; that i can`t eat in the evening from 18:00 and from 18 to 7 in the morning, there are 13 hours . She told me that i shouldn`t eat something fat, in the day before the donating , and so on . That made me think again ,because 13 without eating and then to donate 500ml of my blood, i don`t think that`s ok , because without food , i`m going to be weker and i was afraid . But thouse rules are for the first time donating. Then i just don`t need to bring that paper from my doctor . But all thouse will be repeated .
I hope that i`ll make courage one day and i will go , but with a friend , just in case something it`s not going to be ok .

I was a blood donor for many years (since the 1970's) until quite recently. After an operation for cancer, they decided that they did not want me to donate anymore. Probably because I had blood during the operation and that's enough for them to rule me out as a blood donor.

Yes, I have donated blood many times. I donated blood while I was in high school and as a young adult in my twenties. I have donated blood a few times since reaching my thirties, but have not donated blood since 2004. Yes, we are different than 'other animals' as we have the abilty to be compassionate toward other human beings.
