Why should it take a disaster for you to start thinking of God?

I know that He's there for you to run to in times of dire need, there is nothing wrong with that. Trials exist to coax you closer to God.. to help you find Him. The point is some people turn to Him, remember Him only when something goes wrong. After things get fixed or resolved, they forget or don't bother thanking Him at all. I suffered from this kind of "sickness" before. I trained myself-- it's easy actually, to thank him for the little things. I started to read inspirational articles. Once I was running late to class, I decided not to beg God to perform some small miracle so I won't arrive late. Instead, I got to class before the teacher arrived, that's when I thanked Him. When it comes to exams, I do my best in putting effort to study. I got high marks, I was so full of joy that I thanked Him. The next day some other exams were returned to us and I still got high marks. In times of danger, I just go trust him. Like when my neighbor's dog on the street was on the loose. That dog's known to chase people and attack them. I was really nervous but decided to pass by the dog. It completely ignored me. I thanked God. Yeap, thanking Him for little things work wonders. :) I'm just annoyed that sometimes it seems so fake that people are religious because they need divine intervention over something bad that happened. Some people are like that, believe me.. I know.. I hope we all become enlightened. :)

Your discussion is so true. I have come to know God and to trust in Him. I stay in the word. I don't wait for something tragic to happen. I am the type of person that do mine as a preventive method. Meaning I am thanking and praying constantly everyday. I am also praying for others to come to know Him just as I have. My Prayer is to show others what He is doing for me and He will also do it for them. God Bless You.

Hello phyrethyme, It's sad that some people only call on God whenever they need them. But even if Human are like this God still loves them very much. Disasters happen, or maybe some small bad things happen in a person, to remind him that God is there. I agree with you, being thankful to God will attract more blessings. We should concentrate on the blessings received and not on the problems. Actually, this problems are blessings also because they make us strong, and we learn something from it. Thank you for your wonderful discussion.

yes red i think this will be the lesson to all of us, not to call HIM because we need HIM but to trust HIM always and pray to HIM always.. this supposed to be the greatest lesson to all the people who don't believe to HIS power and strength.. and secondly because they don't even give care to the environment, environment is the number one thing who can help us in times of troubles and problems like this.. better to trust HIM all the time, believe on HIS power and pray to HIM.. GOD loves us so much that HE always guide and watch for us.. in every problem HE gave, there is a solution for it..

I too have been guilty of going about my life as if God wasn't there, and then running to Him when I need help! In His love and mercy, He still welcomes me at these times! But I am aware that it would be so much better if I was already daily practicing my relationship with Him when the bad things strike! Growing up that is exactly what I was taught. I had a godly couple as youth leaders who are the people I have most consistently seen live out their faith in front of me. No, they weren't perfect, and we didn't agree on everything, but they were consistent (still are now) and you can tell their lives come out of a real faith in practice. They taught me more than anyone that if you lay the foundation of study and of your relationship and prayer life with God consistently through the good times, then you have a strong foundation to get you through the bad. Woah, I need to start working on this again. Thank you for a discussion of real value!

I always remember God in my daily journey in life. I always ask guidance in all my doings but sometimes I forgot to break the rules. I always call God for asking him sorry for what I did.

yeah i agree with you. we should seek God everyday not only in times that we need something from Him. we should always pray as a means of thanking Him.

Personally I have always wondered the same thing as well. Many times things and situations come into our lives, even from a small extent and if we are not able to give God Thanks and Praise will he be there for us when the Big things come? Even as a Christian there have been times I have not Thanked him like I should, but have learned thru any situation if you only take time to come to him in Prayer asking for guidance and remember to thank him in the end when the Good things come no matter what happens everything will be OK.

Well This Is an Intresting one actually..The question that you have asked is suitable for many people over here since they need God only during crisis but the real thing is that they think about God only during crisis because they need a social support from an almighty power which would make their things easier..this support itself makes them to perform their work easier and they win in their tasks.. Happy Mylotting..

I envy your faith phyrethyme.. I do not believe in God but I want to believe.. I have never felt the faith and when i passed from school, I realised I was pretending to have a faith that i didnt feel... So even when things go wrong, I do not blame him and when things go well, I do not credit him either...

It's is nice that you do not blame something you do not believe in.. But actually, you do believe in God, you are just rejecting his presence.. Then don't hinder yourself from believing. If you want to believe do so. Be inspired.. I think you do need inspiration.. I don't want to go all religious on you but maybe, did you know that physics can prove the existence of a higher being or God? :)

It is good to know that you do believe in God. It is indeed true that people only believe in Him when they are deeply in need. It seems that God is the last option that one may have when times get rough, when chances get tough. Why do we have this attitude to question His care and love for each of us? Is it not enough to behold how wonderful God has made us in His image and likeness? Afterall, the only thing we should inculcate in our minds is that, "God's ways are not ours, our ways are not His."
