Was that a flat?

This morning, because of the rain, the highways were crazy, so I was taking the city streets to take the roomie to the doctor. I chose to take a way that would take me past one high school and thru another long school zone, but it was the most direct method. As we were driving past the high school, at 20 MPH, suddenly we both heard the "flop, flop flop" that sounded like a flat! "what?" I said, looking around trying to figure out if it was a flat or what. "Is that a flat?" the roomie asked. Just then I spotted the drum section of the high school band out in the parking lot of the school. And then they paused! What a relief! It was going to be tight enough with the wet streets, the off and on rain and rush hour to get to the doctor's office withOUT a flat tire! "Its the band" I told her. "what? It sounded just like a flat," she replied. "I know! it was the drums!" "Wow." Then she paused. "I wonder how many other people they scared doing that." "I don't know, they got us!" So, have you EVER had anything like that happen? I'm glad it wasn't a flat, I really couldn't afford THAT!

Oh! It took me a long time to figure out that you were talking about the noise quite possibly being a flat tire. . I can imagine myself thinking the same thing. Something, a little bit unrelated, that I always have happen to me.. is when I'm listening to the radio - and you know how a lot of songs these days, in an attempt to sound "hardcore", may have sirens in the backgrounds of their samples/beats? 99% of the time, when I hear the sirens, I usually start freaking out - and I get ready to pull over because I think it's an ambulance or a cop with his flashers on, possibly pulling me over. My heart starts racing every time. . It usually takes me 10 seconds or so to realize that it's actually part of the song. So in that respect, I can understand where you're coming from!

I don't listen to music like that, and besides, I don't listen to music at all when I have someone in the car with me, I'd rather talk to them - but I sure have had a few sirens give me a few frights!

Haven't had that experience yet, thankfully. I do hope you call the bank leader to let him know that while you were driving by you heard them practicing...and they sounded a little flat...

yes, actually laughed out loud! I never thought about that, but then again, I don't have the school's number so I'll have to look it up!

There are some commercials on the radio and some songs that have a siren, I have pulled over for nothing before. I don't think commercials and songs should have sirens in them. What if I stopped pulling over or if I pull over and no one hears the sirens but me and I'm in an accident because of it?

I agree about the sirens, but I always look for the emergency vehicle before I pull over, no reason to pull over if its on the cross street...

oh yes Hi ElicBxn I had something similar happen to me'and the other passengers on our little access bus. I was on my way to my doctor's appointment when the driver looked a little odd.I heard it too, flop, flop, flop. she stopped and got out, walked all the way around the little bus, then came back with an empty plastic one liter squashed cocoa cola bottle, it had been caught in the wheel casing of one of the wheels and was making that flop flop noise.we were all relieved,us who were going to our various appointments and the bus driver.whew thank goodness.

LOL That happened to my mother once, when we were listening to a CD. The band started doing something or other, and my mother actually thought it was something wrong with her car, and pulled over to check it out. LOL I let her pull over and pop the hood, before I stuck my head out the window and told her it was a sound on the CD. LOL

Wow, no I've never had that happen but then I've never been right by a school when the band was practicing. That's kind of scary but thank goodness that it was not a flat and was the drum instead! Changing a flata tire in the rain is really the pitts (had to watch my language there!)

Were there any hidden cameras around? Glad it wasn't a flat and that you got to your destination.

They have kits that you can buy cheaply and fix your own punctures. I used to do that all the time, it was very easy. Saved a lot of money, too!

That would have worried me! Fancy the drums sounding like a flat! (LOL) When things like that happen and it turns out to be okay are the times to be ever so grateful. Today I went to the gas station to fill my car up and as I pulled the pump towards me it got tangled with the one next to it causing it to fall on my car. It made quite a loud thump and I was too afraid to look at the damage but to my relief when I took a peek all I could see was a small scratch and no dents. Phew! Like you, I am in no position to pay for car repairs right now!
