Are you planning on getting one? Have you ever had problems with the muscle hurting a couple of weeks after you got it?

Yes, the biggest problem I ever had with a flu shot was the swelling and pain that lingered a little over a week after I got it. It is one of the warnings, and although I've had a flu shot probably four times in my life, I've only had that reaction once. But it was a doozy! I think I was fourteen. Even standing on the leg where I got the shot was painful. I put ice on it, and that helped a little.

Take Ibuprofen before any injection ans it will help prevent this kind of a reaction. When my kids were little I always took them swimming immediately after their shots as that caused them to move around and disperse the immunization throughout their body quicker and they would get less sore.

My arm was a little sore but no serious complications. Just do not want that flu. Appreciate the response!

I've never had any complications from the flu shot and I've been getting one each year for many years now. Sometimes, on the following day, the muscle will will hurt at the location where the shot was given, but the tenderness will be gone by the end of that day.

Has it kept you from getting the flu? How many times have you had the flu? Appreciate the response.

The last time I had the real flu - the influenza virus - was in 2003. I did get the flu shot that year, but it was an early flu season and I contracted the flu about three days after I received the shot. That didn't give my body enough time to produce the antibodies. This would be the only time I've gotten the flu since getting the shots. Ironically, the shot may not have worked in 2003 anyway because if I recall, they had guessed wrong on which strain of flu that would be prevelent for that season.

This is an interesting thought for sure. Makes you sometimes wonder which is the Best way to approach this for sure. I know this yr. there are the 2 different type of Flu shots available and I have considered getting both of them if needed for sure. I am Diabetic, and Insulin dependant at that, so for me it is really important that I try to keep up on things for sure. Just need to find out where to go get it done for Free or low cost with my Medical card as well.

I have never gotten a flu shot before. This year may be my first. However I have had shots where my muscles have hurt for days afterwards. I was told whomever did the shot wasn't very good at their job.

I considered getting the swine flu shot but I am still not sure I will do it. I have only ever had an ordinary flu shot once a few years ago and so did my little girl who was only about three at the time. She had to have hers in two stages because she was so little and after the first one I did not take her back for the booster because she did not react well to it, she got a temperature and had a red rash all over her. I was fine but I have been reluctant for me or her to get it done again after her bad experience.

It's good to hear that you did not have a problem. I'll think it over and decide soon whether to have it done or not

I haven't had any complications that I recall. However, I have only had the flu shot twice. This year will be my third time.

I am planning on getting one, and no, I have never had problems with it in the past. I have a big bruise on my arm from an unknown source right now, and the flu shot could not be any worse. Actually the nurse that gave it last year, I could not even feel the needle

Yes I have had that problem a few times but I have also had some which I never had any problems. In fact I never felt a thing so I am hoping that the one I get in a week or so will be one of the latter.

I usually get a flu shot every year... it is a habit I picked up from when I worked Corrections... and now that I get my medical through VA they push it pretty hard. The only problems I ever had was the Swine Flu shot I got in the late 70's while I was stationed in Germany. A bunch of us got really sick really fast right after taking that. I barely made it back to the barracks, and was really sick for two days as a result.

I did have a horrid problem some years ago with the flu shot - week later I felt like I was going to die, full fledged flu from the shot. Didn't get it for several years after. Only time I had 'muscle hurting' other than the flu was from another shot and the person giving it did a horrid botch job giving the shot. I haven't gotten one yet this year and not sure if I will or not :(

The last time I had the flu shot I felt crappy all winter....so I am opting out of a shot this year. I had the swine flu back in 1972 and have not had the flu until last winter.....so I am going to opt out....unless our area gets really bad with it.

I have never taken a flu shot but have been thinking about the one for the swine flu or the H1N1 virus.. I am also going to wait awhile and see how it effects everyone else before I take this one.. My mther-in-law used to get sick everytime she took her flu shot but she still got one every flu season, even though she knew she would get sick from it..

I don't think I have had any complications so far. I get one every year. It's better now that they aren't using a live virus to make the vaccinations. I am getting a regular flu shot this month at work. I am not getting the H1N1 shot when it is available though. They are using a live virus for that one or so I have heard.

I've gotten one flu shot in my life and got very sick from it. I'll never get another one! Since I don't seem to ever get the flu, even when I take care of people who are sick with it, I don't see a reason to get the vaccine. Besides, who knows what they might put in it?
