Do You Know Your Neighbors?

Neighbors - Two men, neighbors and a baby having a conversation at the edge of their yards over the fence.

I just met my next door neighbor yesterday. I have been living here six months and I have been meaning to go over and say hello for a while now. I knew she was an elderly lady living by herself. I don't think I would have went over other wise. I don't know the people on the other side. There is an empty yard in between us so we are not so close together. The lady across the street keeps two of her blinds up about one or two feet and her little dogs sit in the window sometimes. DH noticed that, I can't see that far. But we live on a highway so I'm not going over there either. How about you, do you know your neighbors?

I do know alot of my neighbours and they all seem nice.I do try to keep myself to myself as i find that way life is a lot easier.I do say hello and stand and chat them always asking how the children are as well as how i am.Once one of them came round as they had not seen me for over a week, they also always chat to my children.

It is good that they cared to check when they did not see you. I am like you and keep to myself as a way of life.

Yes i know all my neighbors around us. Let's see i have a drunk beside me on my right. I have a drunk directly in front of me. Beside them i have a couple that thinks they own everything even if it is yours. Then to my left i have a couple with a whinning son and twins boys with a weirdo husband. So that is my neighborhood. I have been here for like 15 yrs off and on. I would get tired of putting with the drunk neighbors and i would move for a while and then move back. If i moved i was having to pay rent here i own this house. Wish i could pick this house up and move it to the country.

Hubby knows them better than I do. Only two others own houses on this block, the others rent. Hubby knows both sides of us to visit, I know them to say Hi, mostly. One across the alley and on the end I have known for a really long time. Our back yard goes to an alley and the parking lot for my church, so yes, I know that neighbor really well.

I live in a complex of apartments of two rows.. the doors to each row line up with the others. There is maybe 10 to 15 feet of space in between the two rows, so it is pretty hard to NOT know eachother. Alot of us share food and conversation. My grandpa does more with everyone because he is the manager. Me, not so much because I find my neighbors TERRIBLY OBONOXIOUS. lol.

I know my neighbours but i dont know their names. I hate our neigbhour who bought the lot in front of our house. He has put a very small pathetic apartment there where 16 families live in. There is no electricity and no water also! I so hate that neighbour because he did not put comfort rooms in the apartments such that their tenants pee in our gardenbeds! i hate them so much! I will definitely report this to our municipality! He will never pass for a building permit! i am pretty sure i am not the only one who wants it demolished. You know.. the place is so unliveable, their tenants oftentime sleep outside the lot! Dang! i hate it! he sure made our subdivision looked ugly!

omg, this is awful! I would hate it also. That is unsanitary and people will begin to get sick from living like this. Yes, do report this!

i know most of my neighbours pretty well.we celebrate few occassions together like the childrens birthdays, anniversaries, festivals etc.in fact they are a gr8 source of support to us and we also try to be the same for them.the complete neighbourhood is very closely knit.all are independent but we don't mind helping and taking care of eachother's family

I know my next door neighbours and they're very nice, but as for the rest of my neighbours on my block, no don't know them and not really interested to. I will say hi to people as I pass them when walking, but I will say that they don't appear to have anything in common with me so no I'm just not interested in getting to know the rest of them. Besides, I have lots of friends anyway and am not interested in befriending someone just because they're necessarily my neighbor. If I have shared interests or things in common with someone, sure then I would but otherwise no. My husband and I are younger, take care of ourselves and are professionals. My neighbours are much older, clearly don't take care of themselves and don't appear to have much in common with us. I think most people are like that with their neighbours, they might know one or two, but the rest they don't know.

it is very rare that i speak tomy neighbours and i dont have much of contact with them it is like just me or they telling hi to each other when we see them and not more. we rare speak anything and morever i dot find time to speak to them and sometimes i am unable to speak to them as the language problem exists. so it is very rare we speak about anything.

Nope. I don't talk with my neighbors and don't care to know them. Some of my neighbors like to keep to themselves because of past relationship with neighbors that went bad. I feel the same way so I stick to myself. I only talk with the elderly people in the neighborhood but they mostly remain indoors.

I would love to visit the elderly lady's house. Yes, i know my neighbors so well. i have been living in this neighborhood since i was born. i pretty much know everyone here. Our family is pretty known here because they are one of the first settlers in this town during the 1950s. The same people that became their neighbors during that time are still living here till today. A lot of buildings have been put up though but our life here in this tiny neighborhood has not change much.

it is such a pleasure knowing neighbors. I have known my neighbors right from my kindergarten days.. I have so many memories. We were a big group of people right from punjab n karnataka and tamilnadu.. Pleasant it was. Enjoyable moments.

hello there! when i was still living in my hometown, i know almost all the people in the neighborhood! its only because i grow up in that place and i saw them and know them since i am a kid...and most of them are also our relatives... but now that i am living with my husband, in a place far from my hometown, and we always moved from one town to another, i barely know my neighbors! huh! i just know a few from them because they have a store where i always buy some things that i need and when i go out i always pass by their house...i just know them by their face and just greet them hi or hello whenever i see them...but no real talk! huh! i am already one year from where i live now and few months from now, i know i ill be moving again...so time to meet new neighbors again... :-) but i believe that it's important for us to be in good terms with our neighbors... have a nice day...

We too have lived in our house for six months now. And I know a lot of our neighbors but then again there are just as many of them that I don't yet know. We've known the couple on the one side of us since before we moved into our house because they were so kind to us when we were looking at buying our house and remodeling our house (we've owned it for over a year and a half now). The neighbors on the other side of us, we haven't had the opportunity to really get to know. Our house is on a court and so I consider everyone on our little court to be our neighbors. We have about 14 houses on the court. The people at both corners at the top of the hill we do know as they both have children close to my daughter's age whom my daughter plays with almost every single day. Then another family just moved this week out of state but they also had a son that was a couple years younger than my daughter so we got to know them. That's about all of the neighbors that I've had an opportunity to get to know. My daughter, however, has also made friends with many of the older neighbors as well.
