How does somebody know when they have diabetes? What are symptoms that would make you go to the doctor to see if you have diabetes? My dad was diagnosed a few years ago, so now I know it runs in the family, and I want to be careful about it. I also have a friend that's the same age as I am, and got diagnosed with diabetes when she was 9 or 10. I've never had the nerve to ask how they knew they had diabetes, or how the doctor found out.

hi megumiart well first you will be so terribly thirsty' all the time, you will drink a lot of water, and go to the bathroom much too often. You will get extremely sleepy after a large meal, you will find your wounds take' forever to heal. you may get shooting pains in your feet'from nerves affected by diabetes if you have had it for awhile. You will often have blurred vision, and have trouble seeing. you may have all or any of these symptoms,or just three orfour. But if you have symptoms like these go to your doctor and be tested for diabetes. best to be safe not sorry. meg do watch' your weight as overweight plays a huge role in getting the ' disease, and eat properly And do get some exercise each day'all these things will probably keep you diabetes free, specially do not get fat or plump, try to stay slim.

Things like, frequent urination, constant thirst, sudden weight loss, cronic fatigue, a very sweet fruity smell to one's breath. The only way to know for sure is to go to a doctor and have your blood glucose level checked out.

Diabetes has a genetic part. So. if your father has diabetes, I would go and make a test of suger in the blood. It´s very simple and it will leave you at ease. If you do have diabetes, there are pills besides the diets. It´s not so terrible nowadays. But it is important to check it on time.

Usually this can be traced thru undergoing laboratory exam for FBS (fasting blood sugar). Diabetes also runs in the family. My grandmother is diabetic and her sons are all diabetics, luckily not my mom but that would indeed makes her a carrier. So far, in our family... the guys are all diabetics. It is genetic true. But as you can observe, the males in our generation are diabetics. The signs of symptoms are the 3 Ps. Polydipsia meaning frequent drinking. Polyuria meaning frequent urination and Polyphagia meaning frequent eating. Please do take care my friend.

u experience frequent thirst/urination, drowsiness, fatigue, etc. there are two types of diabetes. i am now on the borderline and am being very careful with my diet. i am advised to do regular exercise, too. ur risk is high because u said ur is a diabetic. best way to know if u have diabetes, is to go and have a check-up with the doctor, he will recommend that u undergo FBS (fasting blood sugar) to measure the level of blood sugar.

I totally agree with looking on the web for symptoms. This is what I did earlier this year. I was getting a lot of the symptoms of diabetes. After reading up on the subject I went to the doctor. Ends up that I was right. I was borderline diabetic. Don't ignore your health! If you think there might be any possibility that you have diabetes go to your doctor! I am so glad that I did.

what your dad has is called Type 2 diabetes, what your friend has is Type 1 or juvenile diabetes, the former is insulin resistance and the latter is a lack of insulin production A child tends to have a very sweet breath noticed, also a number of other things going wrong. In an adult excessive thirst is one of the most common "clues" along with a number of other problems

As far as I am concerned diabetes something related to hereditary accompanied with various other factors. My dad suffers from diabetes, it is nothing much to worry about this as long as a person is maintaining good diet which contains sufficient levels of sugar. What I want to tell you here is firstly you must be tension free and keep your mind calm, tension aggravates anything. Doctors find out based on the sugar levels a person has. Just relax and accept what comes and act accordingly.

There are so many coming here and offering opinion on diabetes, and as far as my knowledge goes - I agree to all the symptoms that they have mentioned. I, however, wish somebody would clarify my doubts. I dont feel very thirsty most of the time - except after bath, so far my blood sugar is not out of range, I dont feel very hungry either, and the frequency of urination is just a bit more than that in summer, possibly because of recent incessant rains in our part of the world. My two drawbacks, sedentary lifestyle, and sweet tooth. I dont normally eat sweets as well, just about one pastry once a week. I take three cups of tea with three spoons of sugar each. I am not yet obese, but may be on the borderline. I dont have leg pains, but I used to have them once upon a time. Am I a possible candidate for diabetes?

there are some symptoms for identifying the diabetes like frequent urination ,excessive thirst, extreme hunger, unusual weight loss, blurrry vision, irritability.you can consult the doctor if you find any of these symptoms and as your father have the problem you better take some precautions since it is have a chance of inheritance ....try to do some small exercises and avoid sweets....best work is go for a long walk every day

As far as I know, Diabetes Mellitus has 3 main symptoms. One is a person usually wants to drink or he or she is always thirsty. Another is a person urinates more and lastly, excessive eating. A simple blood sugar test may also be helpful to see if your sugar level is elevated.
