Fetus Found At Waste Treatment Plant

GREER, S.C. -- Workers at the Pelham Waste Water Treatment Plant discovered a human fetus Sunday morning, authorities said. Greenville County Deputy Coroner Scott Ramsey told FOX Carolina the fetus was found in a waste bin inside the treatment facility -- not in the water -- at about 7 a.m. Sunday. Ramsey said it’s uncertain on how long the fetus had been there. However, Ramsey confirmed to FOX Carolina that the fetus did come through the water system at some point. The Greenville County Sheriff's Office said the fetus was fully intact with a developed head, body, fingers and toes. A spokesman for the sheriff's office said a couple of workers cleaning out a waste bin discovered the fetus The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit is working on the case. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning. Melissia McKinney, with the GCSO, said this is the first case of it’s kind in Greenville County. McKinney also said the autopsy will be key in determining how investigators will move forward and in which direction.
