Would you tell the whole world you did an act of kindness?

If you did something good, would you tell the whole world about it? Or would you rather keep it to yourself? As the elections here in the Philippines are nearing, politicians who are planning to run have been showing their good sides in almost every outreach program imaginable. The news programs are filled with various footage of them starring in their acts of goodwill. There are those who are sincere, but there those that seem too staged. It's all based on my opinion though. But there are people who do help those in need anonymously. There are those who are praised by many, and therefore their works are highly acclaimed by people. When asked, they would only answer that they are merely ordinary people who want to help those who are in dire need. What's your opinion? :) Happy myLotting dearies! :)

well, a lot of politicians are always like that because it is near the election period. I just hope that they would stop that and be more concerned about the country. I mean, pork barrels are millions and millions of pesos, every year if i am not mistaken. and where do all these millions of pesos go to? probably their pockets. I don't know. I am not naive and stupid, but i cannot seem to find the money allocated for the public. I am on the construction business so i would know roughly about how much this road costs, buildings, etc. However, the money they receive for the pork barrel is still very huge and not dedicated to the public, as it should be.

I really have no idea where the pork barrel money goes! It's time that they become transparent with everything that they do, don't you think? It's utterly unfair to taxpayers as the money is not put into good use.

yes i do agree. However, in our country, the main reason why change is not seen so much because of these kinds of people. I mean, a lot of them do not want change, rather they want to go with the flow. These people only want to earn for themselves. They study law in college and masters classes or even phd in order to not know the law better and to improve it, they study it to be able to find a loophole around it. And they do not do anything to change that certain law to erase all the loopholes. in addition, there are some so-called lawmakers who just keep on making and passing out law, but does not do anything about its implementation. anyways, what i am really trying to say is, change won't ever happen unless it starts from yourself - from me. If we keep on blaming other people and waiting for them to change, then guess what, that will never happen. If people want to see this transparency regarding this or any other issue, that person should personally change. That is why i regain hope when i see people who actually are trying to change. Like the "Boto mo i-patrol mo" movement where people i think pledge to see and be part of an honest election process.

Well I feel good deeds for doing and not for telling, those who tell that means they want credit for it and are show offs. It is one quality of good deed that if you do one good deed then two good things come to you. So in this case silence is golden.

Very well said! I do agree with you. The quality of a deed is greatly diminished once that person gloats of his/her doings.

An act of kindness is a personal thing done to satisfy God's wish for us to be charitable and good to our neighbours. People who make a big thing about that are only trying to win popularity by impressing other people. Politicians do that all the time. Businesses do it also to gain more customers. For them its a means to more wealth and in terms of charity it means nothing because its all a show. They don't really care about anybody.

hi aixshaonline, i am not a politician and any kind deed that i will do there's no need to announce it to the world. i'll just keep to myself and be thankful for the opportunity given to me to do so. "everything is written in heaven" no need for me to crave for any publicity and praises.

I definitely would, if I were still a child of course, but now I don't think so. What's new, politicians are always like that specially when the election is nearing.

Hi aixshaonline,For me No!I don't need to show the world that I'm helping to the needy or doing some act of kindness.I do believe that The glory will be unto GOD.As you said that some politicians are used to show their help and kindness may be because that is a part of their job. They need support for their winnings as a politicians.Happy mylotting!

I'd prefer it to be between myself and the person that I am helping. I'm not into public fanfare. Politicians who do that and get every mile of publicity out of it make me wonder why they're really doing it.

I would never show off to the world that I have done an act of kindness. when I help someone, it is for my happiness which we can of course share but not show off. Politicians show off because all they want is power , position and money. That is the way they want to attract people to vote for them.

The whole doesn't need to know about my good deeds. It only matters to me if i did with all my heart without thinking about getting something. The principle of sowing and reaping tells us that we will get what we deserve. So if you sow kindness, you will definitely reap kindness but announcing the deed is just giving sweaters during hot summers day. Instead of letting happen, your giving a bad impression instead. you know what i mean? So, in my opinion and also i can back it up with the bible scripture that its better to keep it yourself. If someone sees you then that's ok atleast you didn't do this to get attention. Your also setting a good example to them in a way but you did not intentional show it but it just happens. It's a heart thing. I hope you get my point.

hello aizshaonline, I think they're not from the heart if they ever do some kindness to people. Remember, the election is coming close next year and politicians will do almost everything in their will to simply be recognize by the people for their kindness so that they will get their votes in return. and as for the media, it's all about the ratings, maybe they are truly helping and they should since they're earning millions of pesos from us viewers who are watching their show.

if i had to do an act of kindness, i would do it heartily without any praise, affirmation or anything in return. my motive in helping is to help and nothing more. others may have other motives when they have to "document" their act of giving. i don't need to brag that i helped someone. He alone, who is everywhere, accounts for my good deeds and kindness. That is all i think is important.

If I am sincere for my act of kindness then I'd rather put it anonymous because I don't want the world to know that I do such thing. My mother always donate or give something to church and she never put her name on the envelope. She always put it anonymous. For some politicians, I appreciate those who render help without their name posted for people to remember.

when i do acts of kindness, i do not want the whole world to know it, i don't want anybody to know it as much as possible. It's like motives are tainted once you let people know that you are doing it. It does not matter if i don't get recognized. What matters is i made three people happy. Myself, the person(s) I helped, and the All knowing One above.
