Do you have time to just sit and think of nothing?

My dad shared his new-found joy of just sitting and thinking of nothing. He told us he hasn't done that in well over a decade now and he was glad he had done that a few days back. It made me wonder though, with all the hustle and bustle of our lives, we can't really find the time to stop thinking of our concerns and just to sit still. I too am not fortunate in that sense because there are just far too many concerns in my life. Do you still find time to just sit and think of nothing? It makes me feel relaxed when I do so. A sort of 'release' to the world full of worries.

That is something I'd love to do. But I hardly get the time for it...even on holidays...in fact, holidays are worse...there are just too many people around who need me then. I'm always bogged down with the kids or hubby...and don't get the time to just sit and think of nothing (or something). I think I did have the time to do it before Baby no.2 came into the picture...but now there's always someone whose needs I need to take care of...that includes husband..who is Baby no.3 and wouldn't understand that I need time for myself too. He looks at me like I'm crazy whenever I mention it.

lol..I figured out my own way to get my time. I go to bed earlier than the rest of them. And I spend the half an hour before sleeping to read or just be on my own.

Well you don't need the whole day to do it. Perhaps ask your hubby to give you at least 15minutes to yourself once in a while. You are not a super hero, you need to do this else you'll find yourself burned out.

Yes, I try to do that amd I feel much better afterwards. One thing though..I notice the culture that we live in looks down on being still and praises constant activity. People that are always on the go doing something are praised and the word 'rest'is kind of like a bad word or being lazy.

I know what you mean. There are a lot of complaints from other people stating that you're lazy when you would take a few moments for yourself without doing any sort of activity. I guess we're so attuned to the material world that we have forgotten the reason why we work in the first place. I have such an experience a few weeks back. I went to the metropolis where the lifestyle of people were so much different from ours here in the province. People were always rushing there and they seem to be running after something. Then when night time comes, they look so tired and exhausted. All for what? Only to retire poor, dissatisfied and cranky - usually saying they never did anything with their life. I think these few moments of breathers just gives us a way to look at our lives and decide which path to go to next.

Yeah, I do recall those too but there are just times when I'm stressed out and feeling that I don't earn much that I think I'd rather just sit and do nothing the whole day! Even came to a point of thinking of quitting for the whole year! hahaha.. But heck, after several hours, my body is crumbling to look for ways to earn! hehehe.. How are you doing now? I hope you're not just sitting there doing nothing! Have a great mylot experience ahead!

I'm not sure its easy to think of nothing. Its more like resting your mind and I'm sure its done mostly when you're mentally tired. I do it from time to time, just let your mind drift over nothing much or relax and let the thoughts flow. Its nice.

I definitely have times when I switch off and daydream or whatever. But do you think we ever truly think of nothing? Surely even when we are just sitting relaxed we are thinking of something! In fact, even when we're asleep our subconcious is at work. Maybe its just me...lol

Hmm.. there are actually times when I just look on a far daze and I don't think of anything. Perhaps it is possible. I just sit there looking at the horizon, I don't think of anything - perhaps my mind just wandered. But yeah, that's only for a second or two. I wouldn't want to be in that position for long periods of time - worst, if it's eternity! That'll surely be bad. Thanks for the response, have a great mylot experience ahead!

Hello, with development of the society, the pace of our life is becoming more and more fast.In order to live a happy life, we must to earn more and more money, we must try our best to do our work, we must make every effort to study hard; we must take care of our families, and we must RBI our business...., we haven't any time to sit quietly and think of nothing. Maybe it's a good way to relax our body and mind, but for most of people, it's an unrealistic of life.

Indeed, everything just seems to be too fast these days that we no longer even have time to think. Just lately, I notice, things have been so fast that I lost track of time and now it's September! and December is around the corner, the year 2012 is almost over! But heck, I guess we do need some time off from the hustle and bustle of the world so that we could have time for ourselves, just to relax and clear our minds. But I wouldn't like if too if it's for long term. The worries of life and responsibilities wouldn't just wait. Thanks for the response, have a great mylot experience ahead!

But would you want to?

Well, to be honest I can't stop thinking about my life, even a second before I sleep. I don't know why and seems like I want to deal with it until I end it as the winner. =) And about sit and think of nothing, I don't think I've ever done that in my recent life. =) I can't stop thinking, thinking and thinking. I'm very very strict with my precious time and I make the most of it at all.

I used to do that when i was still young. I was kind of having a lot of problems when I was in high school plus, I use to be a very passive person and thinking about nothing is like my escape from all those problems. Its kind of really relaxing but after doing it I would usually lose my sense of reality and end up frustrated knowing that I would be dealing with my problem again. So I was kind of sick doing it, so I stopped although I still do it every now and but not as usually it was before.

I crave for a time just to sit and think of nothing! Maybe I am getting old because I would really like this. With all the stuff that needs to get done during the day, I don't have any time for myself. The closest thing I could compare this is my drive home from work. Although I would be driving, I am actually in a zombie-like trance thinking of nothing.

Hi, laydee I do not have much time for that these days but I really like doing it. Yes, you are right, it is kind of relaxing, a stress-reliever. I usually do that when I am eating alone (which is not very often), or, unconsciously, when I sit back and kind of "lose" myself. Just staring into space, realizing only after a while that I stopped moving Have a nice day!

HI Laydee, Too bad, I don't have any free time to just sit down and think of nothing. My time is super precious and I always fully utilized my time properly. I am a full-time housewife, most of my time is for my kid, doing housechores and in between I might have some free time to have a nap for a while or simply surfing nets. Nowadays, I can only have free time to online at night, about 3-4 hours only and it is really not enough for me. For me, my time is always not enough,24 hours a day is simply gone very fast. If I really have some free time, I might use it to surf net or do whatever work that I have been delaying it for quite some time. Of course, it does not mean I am like a robot and does not need a break. I do watch Television everyday, reading magazine and chatting /SMS-ing with my friends and family members. One thing for sure, I won't simply sit down and think of nothing in my life,It is just wasting my time.

I think it is easier to sit and think of something rather than nothing, lol. Although I enjoy it, but I feel that it is a kind of wasting time. I will do that when I am staying with my girlfriend or having meal. Enjoy myLotting:)
