I have a girlfriend and we are both studying at the same university. Today, we are suppose to have a class later this evening, but I got something to do tonight therefore i can't attend todays class. Me and my girlfriend usually went to that particular class together, but as for today, she has to go alone without me. I did asked her not to go just for today, it is okay to miss the class just once yet she insisted on going. As a boyfriend, i remind her to take care of herself, walk in a crowd and such but instead of saying okay, she got mad at me and said that she can take care of herself well and something like you are being too overprotective. I am missing the point here? what have i done? am i being overprotective? what should i do then?

it's a wee bit overprotective. i'm sure you mean well, but she might see it as thinking she is helpless or incapable, which can be insulting.she may not want to get behind in classwork as well-even for one day.

I know what you meant, but i am her boyfriend, i want to protect her, i want the best for her... perhaps my action was wrong, but it was all that i can think of. I am her boyfriend, as well as just an ordinary guy, that was all i can think of at that moment.... i want the best for her, why should she mad at me, i am so sad ... i love her...

i would just try to explain it to her in that way. just mention that you're concerned about safety because you love her, is all you meant-not that she can't take care of herself.and maybe some surprise flowers ;)
