Storms can make you either better or bitter!

Seeing our town at the headline news should have make me elated and proud... but it did not. I actually felt embarrassed. With an enlarged picture I saw my townspeople literally squabbling over the bags of relief good being given to them on that particular day. I saw faces of desperateness, hopelessness, and anger even madness as they grab that little plastic bag that contain food enough for 3 meals. How pathetic. On the other hand, traveling from work my husband saw a big tarpaulin sign that reads like this on a automobile business office that has been badly hit by the flood; "We lost 4 million worth of damage from the flood, but we gain 10 million worth of faith and determination!" It sure made us smile. Whoever put that up either for himself and for everyone to see will sure make it through this storm stronger and better. Sometimes we experience the same bad circumstance in our lives, but we look at it makes a lot of difference! How are you looking at your situation right now?

Hey man that really sucks how your town was destroyed but yeah im happy that you have all gained faith and such. i cant really speak from expirience where in long island the worst you can get is "chilly" weather. But when i hear about a large storm coming to destroy stuff i get really sad for the people inhabiting it because they're homes are going to be annhililated by the storm's indescriminate fury. i hope you all recover and nothing like that ever happens to your town again. Have a nice day.

hello beaushell, I don't if it's better or bitter. but we were lucky enough not to be harmed by the floods and terrible rains unlike what's happening in other provinces. we are thank ful here but we also decided to donate some of our clothes to the poor, sadly we can't donate foods as we are out of it as well.

I am far from all this calamity and did not experience what y'all experienced. When you were beset by flood and rain, we here are experiencing a very beautiful day, sunshine and all the nice things. But even so, i felt the pain of losing everything, the pain of losing not just material things but loved ones, i felt the pain and agony of those people. I saw on tv how hard it is, saw how people have become so desperate, desperate enough to fight over one plastic bag of relief goods. My heart reached out to them, I am thankful that this did not happen to me and my loved ones, but i am also in pain. They are our countrymen, they are one of us and if there are people who can understand them, its us.I never thought of that as 'pathetic', being desperate for food is not something to be ashamed of, it is never pathetic to fight for something you desperately need much more something that is not in abundance. Maybe you have been a victim of this calamity but maybe you are one of those lucky ones who has the capacity to stand up and recover without any help but if you are one of those people, would you just stand and wait for your turn and wait..wait ..wait or would you be one of those 'pathetic' ones?

I try to look at things in a positive light although this is hard at times when you are going through something really difficult. I don't understand the role of the universe but I'm sure I've heard it mentioned somewhere that if you remain positive through thick and thin then this really does influence your life for the better. I have read a lot of positive books as well and I treat these as nuggets of gold! They really help me to keep my thinking on an even keel! I also love listening to positive thinking tapes, they help me a lot. Andrew

Without a doubt, things in my life are much easier than all of those who have been going through all of the natural disasters lately. I will agree with you that attitude has a lot to do with how we get through things. I know that when I look att higns in my life negatively, it seems a lot harder to get through things than when I look at things, even if they are really hard, in a more positive light. My current situation is not a good as some, but definatley a lot better than many others. I am thankful each day that I am able to work to support my family and keep a roof over our heads. I know a lot of people who are struggling and do not have a job at the moment. I guess that because I have been through many things that were pretty difficult and I survived them, my outlook has become pretty optimistic overall. I always try to find the good part of even the worst of situations and it has helped me a lot.

Hello beaushell, I hope you are doing well today. It is very difficult for some people to adapt to adversity. Feelings of desperation and hopelessness can lead people to make some bad choices, or to behave in ways that they wouldn't generally do. When I see frightened people grabbing for supplies, I don't judge them, because I have never been in their shoes. I have never experienced a disaster like your country is experiencing now. I would hope that I could handle it and look on the bright side, but I am just not sure I could. I admire the person that posted the faith and determinatin sign, as I admire your ability to smile at it. I hope that both you and your husband stay determined, and stay strong. Be safe and good luck.
