I made my own version of Shepherds pie last night for dinner and I was VERY surprised how much everyone LOVED it. My 16 month old and my 3 year old ate every bite they were given and wanted more. Camodad ate more then half of it by himself. My stepson was at his bio-mom's last night so he didn't get to try it but I'll be sure to make it when he is here next time. I got the original recipe from my mom but she doesn't give exact ingredients of her recipes. I had to improvise. I looked it up online and found a very similar recipe to hers and used those measurements for her ingredients, then added a few of my own. Camodad is diabetic so we always use Splenda in place of sugar and look for low carb/low sugar foods. He checked his blood sugar after dinner and his blood sugar was even still good after eating this. Shepherds Pie --------------- 1 lb. lean ground beef, Minced onion, Salt, Pepper, 1 serving beef bouillon, 1/4 cup water, 1 can cream corn, 1 packet Splenda, 4 servings potato buds, Butter, Shredded sharp cheddar cheese, Parsle Make potato buds by package directions. Brown lean ground beef with minced onion, salt and pepper, beef bouillon and 1/4 cup water. Drain. After draining ground beef mixture, add corn and Splenda. Let simmer until heated through. Place meat and corn mixture in bottom of 13x9 glass pan. Cover with mashed potatoes and drizzle with melted butter. Then sprinkle with parsley and cheddar cheese. Bake on 425 for 20 minutes or until it starts to brown. Do you ever make up your own recipes and have them turn out to be really good?

Hi there Camomom, That actually sounds delicious. My daughter loves my sheperd's pie so I would not want to mess with it too much as she is so picky. Mine is pretty similar to yours except for I use a jar of beef gravy and I use whole kernel corn. The shredded cheese sounds like a great addition. I think I will try it the next time I make it which will probably be next week as we just had it last night. Thanks for the idea!

Sounds great. I love Shepard's pie, my kids don't seem to understand it though. But I think as they get older they will learn to appreciate comfort foods more. I should try making it again now that they are older. I am making a big ham tonight. Got it a couple of days ago for $8.00 I should be able to get 2 meals out of the mean and make split pea soup from the bone. Yum!!

I never liked it as a kid but now that I've tried it again and changed it to be my own, I LOVE it. Ham sounds good. I haven't had ham for a while now. I haven't had split pea soup since I was a kid either. Sounds yummy.

Thats sounds pretty good and relatively easy. Too bad I am allergic to beef!

You could try it with a different kind of meat, like ground turkey. It was very easy and cheap.
