Blue words

When my children were younger I encouraged them to say blue instead of bl**dy. Now these blue blue words are driving me crazy. Will they go away? Have you ever substituted an everyday word for a swear word?

The obvious ones are saying "Oh sugar" or "fffffffff-fiddlesticks!" My auntie used to say "horlicks!" in place of bo**ocks...

Ah yes, the ole swap the swear words trick lol. Yes, I do that too, and I've been doing it ever since my own children were little, and I still do it in front of my grandchildren when I hurt myself hahaha. I very seldom get to where I swear, but every now and again it pops out, like when I hit my finger with my hammer or something. I often start: God Bless, and always end up with 'God Bless America'. Another one that's slipped out a couple times was 'who gives a flying...pig (or sometimes burritto) I think I've only used an actual cuss word once that I can think of, and I'm glad my brain gives me alternatives. I don't care to hear women cuss, so I try really hard not to. I'm still from an era where women cussing was considered 'low class.' I have had people tell me that they like my alternatives though, and instead of anger it usually ends up in laughter.

I hate to hear women swear. I seems to be the fashion now not to say a full sentence without a swear word every other word. It makes me cringe.

There are many words that were once taboo that we hear all too often. Some I use but others I detest. I will substitute words when I feel the urge to talk "blue".

I have substituted a few and I will always remember my mother telling us she was going to change her name to sh*t, so we would quit bugging her so much.. She knew, and we knew that we would get into deep trouble if we said that word, and she had 10 kids, so this was her way of getting a break from us, or trying to. I guess that is the opposite of what you asked but I couldn't help but pass that one on because it remended me of how she was when we were growing up.. I do say hen fire instead of h*ll fire, that is another of my mothers way of cursing..
