Do you think the way Barack Obama wishes India happy diwali by saying " saal mubarak" is justified ?

I have to be honest. I don't know what "saal mubarak" means. I think his intent is on creating world peace. Why? Do you feel it is a bad thing? Elaborate because I really don't know. from what you wrote above, it appears to be a friendly, harmless gesture.

Saal Mubarak is a urdu way of wishing happy new year. Indians in US are doubted as terrorists especially indian muslims. So instead of saying saal mubarak i feel Barack Obama should have translated it as " Naye Saal Ki Shubhkaamnaye " which means happy new year in hindi.

I think you are grasping at straws, it is obvious what he meant. He meant it in a positive way. That is all that matters.

Sounds like you are making much ado about nothing. I'm sure he had the best intentions and when dealing with foreign languages mistakes are often made.
