Do you ever accidentally hit the "best response" button?

I have noticed in many discussions that I have been reading on here that best answer has been picked even if the discussion is only a few hours old and the best answer is #1 and has nothing to do with the discussion. I have done this myself when my pointer somehow went on it's own over the screen and I accidentally picked a best answer. In my instance it was a good enough reply and I might have picked that anyways but I think it would be better if answer number one wasn't automatically in the drop down list. It should be easy to fix this by having the first words in the drop down list "click to select best response" or something like that. I was reading a discussion earlier where I think this might have happened as there were a lot of good responses on the topic but the #1 answer was something that was in no connection to the topic.

I noticed that a best response has been chosen for the first answer (off topic) and the discussion is only 35 minutes old. I'm guessing the discussion starter is quick to the punch, probably thinking that you earn by choosing a best response...which may be true but I think myLot wants us to wait for one worth choosing before actually choosing : ) I have chosen the first response but partly because it was before we had organization on this site (pages of comments, responses, and discussions totally uncategorized) and if I was waiting for weeks for a response. I admit I can be a little impatient but I'm not trying to cheat the system either. My rule has been... I choose a best response once the discussion is at least one week old or 10 or more responses, unless it has been waiting for a response forever. Now, I can look at ONLY 'discussions I started', so I don't mind waiting for a great response. Maybe myLot could add a feature where we can choose the best response directly from the forum box it was posted, like 'CHOOSE THIS POST AS BEST RESPONSE' or something. Sometimes, you will find the best response in a comment... then what?

Ask and ye shall recieve! Cool ; ) There shouldn't be any more problems choosing the one you want now. ((maybe myLot read my suggestion?))

Yes, I have often wanted to pick a comment as a best response but in those cases the person who commented on someone elses response had also left their own comment. I think it would also be a good idea to post a comment on the best response when you choose it to tell the users why you picked that one.

I have also noticed it . And may I suggest to write this matter to user "mylot" . you should be knowing that 'mylot' is official representative here

Good idea. Yes I know myLot is a representative of myLot and I have posted on their discussions and also sent them messages which they have responded to. I will send them that idea. Thanks for the advice.

I did write to them but when I went back to my messages to see if they had responded to it, it had disappeared!

I have never picked a best response in error, but considering how fickle some mice can be I imagine that it is easily done. Another answer could be that the best response was given to a colleague who in turn would return the favour. This may be an unethical practice, but sadly ethics are not the most popular commodity nowadays.

Yes, it could be a "you pick mine and I'll pick yours" deal but I would think friends would put something more than just "yeah" as response to a serious discussion. But you never know.

I haven't hit it by accident, but I have noticed the same thing as you. I think it could be that people don't realize you cannot change it later. So, maybe they mistakenly select it as best response and they meant to hit the "+" sign, just because someone responded to the discussion.

That could be it. I have seen discussions where people are asking how they can change it but I think that would be a little too complicated if someone changed their mind after the user had already been paid for best response.

I have to confess that I have accidently done this myself. The post that got best response would not have been the one I would have chosen.Unfortunately once it's done you can't take it back.

It is annoying when that happens. It might not make a difference but I think people get a few extra cents when someone rates their comments as best answer and it's strange to see an anwer selected as best when it has nothing to do with the discussion and there are so many good answers on the topic.

u know most of my discussions don't get response. but the few responses i get are good enough to be the best response. i guess people accidentally select best response when they are not paying attention to what they are reading or may be they don't really care.
