what is the time frame when one parent does not contact their children that it can be defined as child abandonment and legal action be taken?

I know in Michigan, the magic number is two years...after that you can petition to have parental rights removed...

I live in Indiana and the father of my 8 year old son has not seen or attempted to contact or provided any financial support for our son since he was a year old. Do I have any legal rights to terminate his parental rights? Please respnd...my email address is katie.weisse@sbcglobal.net
