I think there is some internal problem in their dressing room which is not letting them settle down as a team. We have seen last season what they are capable of and there is no reason to believe they cannot repeat their performance this year. But Liverpool without Gerrard is not the same team, there is no doubt in that. They seem to lose their backbone and will to give their best whenever he is not around.

You see I would agree that they are a good team with Gerrard and Torres in the team, but that is exactly the problem. Without those two, Liverpool looks a second class team. The defense looks horrible, the midfield lacks creativity, and Ngog & Voronin are your back-up striking choices. Even before the start of the season, alot of things had to go Liverpool's way for them to win the Premiership. I know this view is not popular with the fans of Liverpool, but you mentioned that they performed well last season, I actually think that last season was their best chance to win the premiership and they blew it. They had a great win against a weak Madrid team and they caught United on a really bad day. It's simple what Liverpool has to do to compete, get better players, the likes of Lucas, Ngog, Voronin, Degan, Dossena and Skrtel just don't seem to cut it.

I think the lost of alonso in midfield rocked the team hard. It made them lose the needed depth in the midfield area. I just hope things will get better when aquilani, gerrard and torres returns from injuries. Liverpool need to shop for better players in the january transfer market to add depth to the squad.

You make great points. The lost of Alonso has obviously have a major effect. And you are also right in that Liverpool are in their current predicament because they simple have a second class team but a few first class players, unlike the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.

Yes really Liverpool is having a horrible time. This is their fourth loss of this season and the way they playing, it seems that there is no possible chance that they can come out of this performance and win the EPL. It is really sad for the Liverpool fans that their team is not performing upto their potential.

As a Manchester United fan, it is really hard for me to feel sorry for Liverpool, but it is reasonable to say that their squad is not as strong as they were for the past few years. In particular, I think their defense is much weaker. Carragher looks like he's on his last legs, while Skrtel and Agger looks lost. I'm surprise that Agger is not playing well, cause he's been really good in the past when he plays. Also, there seems to be a lost of rhythm in the midfield, which I think is caused by the lost of Alonso. Now I know that Liverpool fans would say that one man doesn't make a team, which is true of cause. But what I'm trying to say is that there is no longer the passing master, who feeds the ball to Gerrard, allowing Gerrard to move further up the field. Look at the way Gerrard plays this season, he's playing way too deep, unlike his second striker role of the pass two seasons.

It strated with their lost against Fiorentina in UCL. They continue their lose in Premier League. Maybe the lost of Xabi Alonso who signed for Real made an impact. Their midfield not stable as last season.

Torres and Gerrard are the main power of Liverpool. Without Torres and Gerrard, Liverpool will continue their looses. And maybe Alonso's departure have made Liverpool weaker.

Simply put, Rafael Benitez has lost the plot. I've always said Benitez is the wrong man for the top coaching job at Liverpool. If Wenger has been so agonisingly close to glory, with such a flawless side, Liverpool fans have to wait a little longer for premiership glory. My patience is running thin!

I think many factors that can make it.like their mental is go down after losed in champion league and others. Now liverpool is in the 6th table and they still have a chance to be premier league winner though it is too little.

i hope when aquilani starts to play, Liverpool will be more competitive in the league. Lucas is a great prospect for the next years, but is not already to be a in the starts of the games... Also Benitez with his fight with the owners could be the problem
