i have always wanted a cat but i have 4 dogs and i fear that will be a problem. i loce my dogs and i wouldn't give them up for nothing. i was wondering which do you think is the best animal to have as a pet and why? for me i think that a dog is much better to have as a pet because they offer better protection. thanks to all who apply.

I think dogs are more personable....but that's because that is what I have had for a pet....I haven't had luck with cats....but my choice would be a dog.

I like cats 300 times better, and for a few reasons. Dogs remind me of kids...they can't seem to do anything without you by their side, they get annoying at times when they won't leave you alone, and I honestly don't find dogs to be attractive animals. I also don't like how dogs always seem to smell. Although they clean themselves, it's nowhere near as squeaky clean as a cat can clean his/herself. In saying that, dogs are great animals. They do offer protection (if you can train them, that is; when I lived with my parents neither of our dogs were very good at protecting the house although we tried to teach them). Cats are more cuddly. I can't cuddle very well with something that stinks, and cats don't stink. I love when one of our cats jumps up in my lap and curls into a ball, so happy to be a part of my family. Cats are not dependent but independent...they may need you to fill their bowls, but at least most don't annoy you into doing it. I believe cats are beautiful creatures and they keep themselves clean on a large general scale. Cats remind me of little humans...each with their own personality, likes and dislikes...and in all my years of having both cats and dogs, dogs never showed that as much. I've had much better luck with teaching my cats things such as to come when called, to play fetch, and even what my words mean when it's dinnertime. Maybe I've just had bad luck with dogs, but I've never had a very smart dog. All of the dogs I've had were stubborn, stinky, and lazy. All of the cats I've had were loveable, clean, sweet, and actively healthy. I like the love for your dogs that radiates from your post. It's nice to hear someone else describe the love for their animals. My husband and I have four cats and love them dearly...they are a part of our family more than any human ever could be, and they bring so much joy and happiness to our family. I would protect them the same as I'd protect my husband. Just because they are of a different race does not mean they are any less of family. Good luck to you and your dogs.
