Hi guys, Can you share you can best manage your anger? I really have trouble controlling my temper and staying calm in distressing situations. I know some people are able to do it. You think is a trait one must try to cultivate?

well now Prettycho, I am a redhead with five kids and a husband so ...yes i get angry from time to time. What i do is take a few deep breaths, close my eyes and turn my face away from the object of my anger. Sometimes i have to give the stink eye just to keep from opening my mouth.LOL. Eventually i calm down but if i dont...i have to walk into another room and say all the things i want to say to the other person .....to myself. Or just distract yourself with something that amuses you.

Thank you for your advise. I would imagine having 5 kids, you have learned to manage your anger. Sometimes I want to simply shout my lungs out and throw things. I wish I could find a venue, like you can freely throw plates, etc. to vent your anger. I have seen it on TV once, and I think its a good therapy. Come to think of this, this is a good business idea. haha.. I'm sure we are not alone in this.

LOL Yes yes throw those plates my dear but please......not Grandmothers china. lol Seriously though, get yourself over to your local second hand store or a yardsale and get some old worn out dishes or ugly vases or anything you can smash. Find a spot and put down a tarp take your stuff outside and smash the heck out of it if you need to. Keep a few things on hand but don't forget that SOMETIMES distroying things can up your anger so be carefull and breath. Breath...breath breath i cant stress that enough. If the person as truly truly offended you,i mean down in your soul offended you talk to God about it, ask him to help that person you will be AMAZED at how an act of good will toward your offender can render your anger. If it is just fleeting anger break a dang dish *wink wink*

Of course, the common response is the counting to 10 before letting out your anger. lol. But I would have to say, I try to avoid, separate and literally distance myself from the person or situation that is causing me anger, for a while. I will take as much time as I need on my own so that I will not let out my temper. If this is not possible, I just shut up and just be quiet and when everyone is gone, I write all my feelings in a piece of paper and sometimes I cry myself out so that my emotions would not be bottled up inside me. :)

I am so much like you, I usually cry my eyes out because of anger and frustration. Wish its normally to just shout and let loose all those angst. haha.. about counting from 1-10, I barely can think straight so counting would be out of the question. haha
