I ask this because five years ago I remember them being everywhere around our apartments and now were lucky if we get even a few of them coming around. Our neighbor across the street (its a house) cut down a big tree in his yard, the apartment complex behind us is undergoing big renovations and before them our apartments underwent renovations but I wonder what exactly did it? Im always looking out for squirrels because I just adore them i think their so playful and fun to watch and even have a sense of humor so I miss my little squirrel friends . I think Squirrels that only live in the woods are different so its not quite the same watching them. I remember once when they still were around I left some dried corn and husk we got from walking by a field one walk we went on and the next morning they were eating up by the squirrels, they loved it and I had no idea! That's the only thing I can think of to bring them around again. We do have a house down a few blocks the lady has four cats and she lets them roam around freely (their cute black cats pretty tame my kids like em) I dont think cats chase squirrels, do they?

Hello Revella. When I lived in the country, there were various kinds of squirrels everywhere. Even now, though I live in the city in an apartment complex, they are still abundant. So from my own corner of the world, I have to say no! Karen

I don't think that the squirrel population is decreasing at all.I live a city and I see lots of them .In fact when I wake up in the morning I listen to them and see them scurrying here and there or up a tree.I love to watch the squirrels.

Cats will chase anything! They won't catch them, but they'll chase them. By cutting down that tree they probably lost their own "apartment building" and moved out of the neighborhood. I love to watch squirrels although they drive my dog crazy. They tease her, it's a game to them!

They must have all moved to upstate NY. In these months before the first snow, squirrels are flying around with their purposed abandon - - not really worrying about passersby or the windy weather or the people who watch them in wonder. like the cats who wonder how they can fly up a tree and onto wires overhead. Where are you located... we have enough that we can spare a few.

I can not tell you for sure, but yeah, squirrels are cute. Strangely, wherever I have worked, I always found this black little squirrel species scurry about in the roads and trees. Granted, they are not that much, but they are there.

That's sad, things really changes as times passed by, like the animals you used to see before usually diminishes and before you know it they're gone. A lot of factors contributes whys some of these animals decreases in population in a certain area like for example development of that particular area means they have to cut down trees, paved the area, putting all the natural resources underneath thus leaving these animals without shelter and food, either they die or migrate and look somewhere for them to live, another reason is they are being hunted down both by humans or some domestic animals that came with the development of that area.
