Well, for people that come from a country where internet is cheap, maybe this question seem stupid. But in my country, internet connection actually very expensive, especially in my younger day. Very few people actually has internet connection at their home. The first time i use internet is when i am 14 years old, i was in the first year of my high school day. It is year 20000, the 2nd millennium. I go to internet cafe to company my friend play internet, i rent one computer and he the other. At that time, what i do is simply making a e-mail account and chatting ( Not with mlrc, but a local site that have chat facility) . It is in bolehmail.com, a local site which pretty popular back then ( Although now the site already dead ). Off course i can't help to take a peek to a few adult site since i was curious back then . Ok how about you, how old are you when the first time you use internet, what year, and what site that you are visit. Thanks

I think I was in 2nd year highschool that time, so that was around 1999.. We had a dial up connection in our house.. but back then, I don't really use the net cause it cost so much, plus, I have no idea what to do with it. hahaha. So I was in the house with a few of my friends, and one of them had the idea of checking the net to look for pictures of ( drum roll please.... ) BACKSTREET BOYS! hahahahahahah!!! now that I think about it.. I could just die now from humiliation. lol.

Oh yikes - I think I was in my mid 20's or somewhere around that time. What year? Years ago - hee hee. I never got my own computer because I always had one at work - and even then I didn't even need to use the computer. But then there was a need, so my boss got me my own computer to use for work (but I learned quickly how to use it for personal things at the same time - ha ha). I seriously cannot remember what sites I visited back then . . . if anything most of it was work related (like emailing). I think I went with hotmail for my first email account. If myLot or Facebook existed back then, ohhhhhh that's where I would have went!

That is true . . . everything online has gotten better since "back then" . . . whoever started the whoe social networking thing was a genius. Oh yes, internet use was free for me . . . but quite often I could use it for both work and personal (the bosses didn't know what I doing - ha ha - but I did get my work done).

I just hope it keep evolving and give us something new every now and then so we never ever got bored playing the internet. Thanks for responding this discussion.

Well, lucky you to be able to use internet for free from the office. But since you only use it for work, well maybe you not so very lucky. Yes, i don't think there are social networking site at that time. And even if there is one, i don't think it will be as fun as social networking site that are exist at this time. Thanks for responding to this discussion.

I am a very late starter and I mean very late! (LOL) We didn’t get our first computer until 2003 when I was 42 years old! It was an old dinosaur that we bought for one hundred dollars and it was really sloooow! We had dial up then which was also very slow and it would cut off every time the phone rang; we had a long cable that ran along our passage way! We’ve come along a long since then, now we have fast broadband and three computers in the house!

Yes, i remember the first computer my parent bought is actually the cheapest they can get. They think the computer is all the same, they don't know anything about ram, processor or harddisk. At that time i use windows 95 and dos, with 8 MB RAM, 1 GB Harddisk, and a very slow processor. Anyway, better late then never feel it at all. And now you have a broadband connection and three computer, it is really are a very good thing. Congrat to you then.

In 1997 I used the internet for the first time. I didn't have my own computer and that time, but one of my teachers introduced the students to the internet. At first he told us a bit about the internet and how it worked and then we got the chance to try it on our own. In the beginning I only used the internet to search for information about different things, and I remember that I read the news online. I also found some information about the university that I was interested in and some information about psychology. We were only allowed to use the internet for one hour, but I didn't want to quit, because I loved exploring this new "world"

Yes, it is good for you to be able to enjoy the internet for free. For me, there is no internet time in school. And even, they only let us use windows 3.11 which at that time, windows 95 actually already quite popular. Even my computer at home use windows 95 as operating system.

Hi porcospino: lucky you... that was too early. My first experience with the Internet was back in 2001 i think so. Even with that you haven't told us at what age do you first use the interney? According to your story i'd think you were 17-21 years old isn't it?

Well, the same age as you, I was 14 years old that time. The year was 1998 and there were very few internet cafes available in my town. The connection were really slow and it took me hours to open the site I want. It was very frustrating It was 10 years ago, and now almost all people have internet access at their homes. I access internet at home too, and I am grateful because the connection is not so much faster and I don't have to go out to find the cafes.

Yes, it is really slow back then. Compare to the past, today internet connection is super fast. Maybe, in the future, people will consider this speed we have very slow. Maybe they even reach 1 GBps. Who knows? Although i am sure, more of the file also big to in the future. Thanks

That means were pretty behind when regards to technology. The first time i hold and used the computer when i was just around 15 i guess. At first, i'm so scared of touching it, hahaha so ignorant. Everytime we had a computer lab, i will always have a peek to my classmates what they're doing, I am afraid that i might make a mess.hahaha its such a funny experienced. I am glad that i had a computer at home now, am pretty good now how to used it and surf, that's why i was able to land on this site.hehehe

hi lordcaocao hi again Please laugh if you wish but I was fifty seven when my adult son gave me a used computer and monitor, the monitor was old and clunky. I knew very little about internet or computers but I did learn with my son's help and I was off and running. I loved surfing the net and I did genealogy and well just about everything you could think of. I have had a love affair with the internet and in my old age I still do. he he.my son of course started young and by the time I was surfing he had become a computer programmer so we still have a huge love affair with our computers and now I have a thin monitor an led or whatever they call it, you can pick it up with one hand and the screen is big and the colors are bright and clear , I really love this new monitor samsung.

Thanks for responding to this discussion mister. LOL again.

When I was at university they had a really basic version of the internet, just with black and white screens and no pictures. I don't know what you would call it, but it was, I think, the technology of the time! This was back in the early 1990's, and I was 18 or 19. I don't think I actually visited a site (didn't know I could at the time!), I just used it to email my friends.

I was twenty-one old when I first used the Internet. This idea of an 'e-mail' was so new and everyone was talking about it. It seemed like a fantastic idea, adn I'm sure I had no clue about the real impact of an email or even the Internet back then. It was just one of the most popular things at that time, and, I must add, quite expensive. A lot of us thought the whole concept was just a temporary fad. How little we knew back then!

It was in the year 2000 when i first use of the internet when it was introduced in our University as part of enhancement to student learning. I being one of the teachers, also became interested in it having came from a poor family with no access to computers or internet. Funny as it may sound, but the first time i surf the net was a very hilarious expereince as i was also getting used to the movement of the mouse's cursor. It was a real nice experience getting information from the web not with the window's based programs that we have now but with black monitors which will bring you to sites with dot matrix texts and black and white picture or graphics. The experience of getting and sourcing the information from the web especially on subjects like Psychology and its related fields was very rewarding. Sooner, i get used to the use of the internet and there is never a day that i did not go to the inet lab to surf on information which i could make use of in the explanation of my lessons and to really enhance and improve my teaching with my students. I honestly thank the persons responsible for introducing this technology. I truly believe internet and the computer is really a boon to mankind with the readily available information on the net. By the way i was already 36 years old at that time. REally funny is it not? Learning through the net at this age? Thank you.

Well good for you. At least now you know how to play the net, even at the same time you also need to learn how to use the mouse. But at year 2000, isn't at that time the windows already exist. Why still use a dot matrix text and black and white picture? Are they msdos based browser?

Lets see........the first time I used the internet. I will have to figure it out for you. I took computers in school but that was before windows and the internet had come out. I bought my first windows based computer not long before 1990 but I can't remember exactly so I guess I have been using the internet for ten to fifteen years and I am now forty two so that would make me probably about twenty eight years old when I first started using the internet. I remember when I first discovered the internet; I didn't know anything about it so I taught myself by trial and error using it. I remember staying on my first internet capable computer for hours and hours until I would be nodding off at my desk. I am still amazed at the wealth of information at your fingertips with the internet.

I still use the internet regularly even more and more all the time. I try to keep up with all that is going on online but it is too much. I like the internet very much. It is like having the worlds encyclopedia at your fingertips. I have never failed to find the information I need on the internet. I would like to make the changeover one day to making my living online instead of other work. Especially when I get older and will not really be able to do physical work like I can now.

I am doing ok with my surveys and writing and I really like it when I get to participate in an online discussion because it pays the best. The real money is in maintaining your own website. I use affiliate marketing right now but I am looking into selling products or e-books to really bring in a living. The problem right now is getting the traffic to my website.

Yes, in my country is the same. Internet is expensive here, although the connection is not fast. And yes, it seem most of the people here, the first thing they do when they meet the internet is making a mail id. Chatting is not really a first they do since most of them actually kinda confuse with most of chatting slang.

I think internet services has became very popular since 2000. So people who born after 2000 have great chance of exposure to it since young age. It is not fair to compare with people who born before year 2000. Doesn't make sense to compare too. Difference generation will face and have different information technologies. I used internet first time when I was 15 years old. By that time, the popular search engine is yahoo. :) I still remember that I was very proud to sign up my email account with yahoo and hotmail... LOL. I chat in ICQ using computer service in my school... :P Of course cannot chat for too long. Everyone was entitled to used for 2hours only for each session (morning/afternoon/night). Fun memory to recall back... Thanks for sharing this topic!
