Would you Rather Watch TV with the Lights ON or OFF?

For most people, they are accustomed to watching TV with lights off. Perhaps, according to their thoughts, turning the lights off while watching TV won't affect others who have been asleep. But from where I stand, it is better to have the lights on because in the dark your pupils will dilate and your eyes will not be using your central vision but instead the peripheral areas which are do not allow sharp images. Why most people turn the lights off while watching TV? Would you rather watch TV with the lights ON or OFF? Is better to watch tv with lights off or lights on?

Turned-off lights are great when you're watching horror. No eye strain is allowed for scary movies for sure.

Is it really better to have the lights on when watching TV? I never thought that it affects our eyes, since you can see well when lights are off.

I prefer watching with the lights on as watching the lights off makes my head ache as the television will then be so bright. I think watching in the dark make the eyes work harder. I think it gives me eye strain while watching in the dark.

I'd like to think that you make a very good point there. Watching with lights off makes our eyes work harder. I have been used to watching with lights off. I might as well change my watching habits.

I rather watch TV when the light is on. Because base on science also that the radiation will spread fast when it is dark since dark color absorbs the radiation. The same explanation of heat, you should not wear dark colored T-shirts when it is summer time, instead wear light colored one so the heat will just reflect. I hope most people are not aware of it. That having much radiation to you could cause most serious ailment. I suggest that if they like watching TV when it is dark, rather they should put a glass of water near the TV so this one will be the one to absorb first the radiation, not you.

I usually watch TV with light on.In my opinion ,if you put yourself in the dark environment and watch TV at the same time ,more radiation will come to you, and these lights will affect my health, specially to my eyes. Another reason is i am very scaied for watch TV in the dark .

I prefer to let my lights on when I watch TV, because it's a bad health for our eyes when off the lights, and watch TV against the screen light, it's not good.

I don't watch tv often but when I do, lights are on. Lights off hurts my eyes and I see blurry! I think it's better to have lights on or if not possible at least a small light on.

Personally for me, I prefer having some lights on while watching TV as I think it helps me see better, but my husband is one to be known to watch TV almost in the dark if he can, especially in the morning when watching the News before I get up, and sometimes later in the evening, especially if I go to sleep before he does as well. I guess with this one, it is a matter of opinion and taste for sure.

Hey, browser. I prefer watch TV with light on. It's also said that watching TV with light off will hurt your own eyes. But my dad and uncle always watch TV with light off, especially in the daytime, they always draw the curtain to watch TV. The reason they told me is darkness makes it more clearly. Maybe it's true. Who knows? Haha...

Hi getbrowser, We watch Television with the lights off but I sit at a longer distance and most times I am not really watching the Screen properly or looking at the Television directly for any given time. One is because of the never ending adverts and the other if the Films that is on bores me to tears but everyone else wants to watch that.

I prefer watching TV with the lights on versus the lights off. One of my reasons for me I have a tendency to fall off to sleep if I turn off the lights while I have gotten so comfortable on the sofa. I think that it is time to go to sleep. LOL.

I will switch on a CFL bulb of small number as I feel uncomfortable to watch TV in darkness. At the same time my husband watches TV upto middle of night and daughter has her own room, so no question of disturbing any body arises.

I usually watch TV with the light on, but only the dim light. Otherwise, I feel uneasy with my eyes. I cannot tell exactly the scientific reason behind it. "...because in the dark your pupils will dilate and your eyes will not be using your central vision but instead the peripheral areas which are do not allow sharp images." Maybe your explanation just spelt it out. And I remember somewhere I saw preferably a red light, but I am not sure.

That depends on the situation. If I'm watching something scary, I want the lights to be turned-off so that I can really feel the scary ambiance of the film. I also love it with popcorn.

I usually watch tv with the lights on. if i am watching a scary movie, that's a different story. I like to watch anything scary with the lights off. It's a mood enhancer for me. What's fun about watching a thriller with all of the lights on?
