scratch or packet mix?

When you make biscuits, cakes or anything else, do you make it from scratch or cheat & use a packet mix? These days, when I make sweets like cakes & bikkies, I make them from scratch - it's alot cheaper & is just as easy...however, if I'm making something like spaghetti bolognaise, I cheat & add a jar of sauce... Do you make things from scratch or do you cheat like I sometimes do?

I have done both. But in the interest of saving time, I usually use a mix. When it comes to special meals, I go the scratch route. I suppose it just depends on how I am feeling. with gravy, I do my own. It always tastes better to me than the packet stuff.

It is more time consuming to make things from scratch...I love homemade gravy but was only shown once so I use a packet mix...I know you put vegemite in it but not sure on the rest...could you hep me out?

I do both. It really depends on how much time I have and if I am in the mood to do the clean up that making things from scratch takes. I do think that from scratch tastes a lot better most of the time.

I agree, making things from scratch do taste alot nicer but then there's all the mess to clean up - catch 22 situation lol

I make almost everything from scratch. It's easier and takes less room to store basic things like flour and salt and baking powder than to have to store a mix for this and a mix for that, a box of this and a box of that.

I agree plus it ends up being cheaper too

I usually make things from scratch, but I do use spaghetti sauce from jars. I also cheat on angel food cake - I use a mix.

That's exactly what I do!!! Except the angel food cake (never made one - never eaten one as they're not popular here in Australia).

It's easier and quicker to make things from a mix. I prefer to make whatever I like to bake from scratch. It may take a little more time, but often it can save you money. With mixes, you are paying for the convenience of having most of the work done for you. Scratch is best I think!

I totally agree!!! Packet mixes are great when you don't have alot of time & do taste good but making from scratch is cheaper & tastes better
