Do you still get a lot of trick-or-treaters..?

..in your neighborhood, around where you live? I was personally disappointed to find that we only had TWO groups in the 2 hours we wanted to hand out candy! So, in total, only about 10 kids. I was super disappointed, because I was really excited about handing out candy this year ('cause I didn't get to last year). Anyway, it seems as though there are less and less each year going. Why do you think this is? And what about you and your neighborhood?

Only got two trick-or-treaters in my neighborhood this year. I guess most of the parents take their children to the local malls instead of the usual door to door. I noticed last year that trick-or-treaters were less and less. And this year it was really less.

We never had trick or treaters growing up because we lived in the country. We always went downtown trick or treating as kids and we made out great. We had a bag full in no time. Then when we moved here with our boys we were shocked that noone on our street celebrates Halloween. It was kind of disappointing. A lot of the local churches around here do this Trunk or Treat thing where they line up all their cars in teh churchparking lot and you go from trunk to trunk and get your candy. I guess they fele that it is safer for the kids this way. I think that a lot of the trick or treating has diminished over the years due to safety.

There were no trick or treaters this year in my neighborhood because there was a storm in Manila. I had even prepared a bowl of candy for them because the previous year I was not able to prepare for the kids. I was also looking forward to giving out candy this year too.

We are in a large, nice neighborhood, with around two miles worth of houses to Trick-or-Treat at. There are a lot of children who live here, and families who do not live here will come. We were not used to this at first. The first year that we lived here we thought we could get by with two bags of candy (one was not even enough where we used to live) but it went fast. There are many kids and many costumes. I like sitting out on the front patio in my coat and greeting them as they come by.

When I was a kid, I can remember endless groups of tick-or-treaters at my door on Halloween night. There are still a lot of kids that go trick-or-treating today, but I don't see them to the extent that I used to. We lived in a mobile home park and the trail of trick-or-treaters was enormous. We had more kids trick-or-treating that didn't live in the park. Door -to-door houses seem to be participating late it seems.

I live in a gated townhouse community, so we don't get very many at all.

My kids are still young so we take them out for trick or treating. But I will say that our neighborhood does get a ton of trick or treaters still. This is our second Halloween in this house, but before we moved here this was one of the neighborhoods that we would make sure to stop in just because there is a lot more houses that hand out here. Two of our neighbors buy bigger candy bars for my two and have given them both years. We are the only house on the block that has young kids, the only other house that has kids is two doors down but they have two teenage daughters. Most of the houses on our block are elderly couples so I think that with the two that give my two the bigger candy bars it is like their grandkids because theirs live so far away. Once my two are grown and either are old enough to go with friends or don't want to go any longer that my husband and I are definitely going to hand out candy. I think a lot of why not so many are going is just for fears sake. There has always been the fear of poisoned candy but I think it is even more now a days...I am not sure if it is just me but I have noticed that with each year that passes more and more people become ruder and just not on Halloween but in general, there isn't as many helping friendly people out there. We have all seemed to become less about other and more about ourselves.

We are not in a house, so I knew trick or treaters would not be coming to our door. However, we did go trick or treating around the neighborhood. There were many houses that were dark - obviously closed to guests. But still there were those houses that who were kind to still give out candy. There is one house that decks out every year for Halloween - and everyone for sure goes there. They have those gigantic Halloween lawn balloons, scary animatronic decor, fog, strobe lights and friends in creepy costumes to scare the kids. And for some reason the other neighbors around them get in the festive mood too. So we like going to that concentrated area of houses. Certainly there aren't as many folks partcipating in Halloween like when I was a kid. I remember when the streets were crowded with kids in costumes and there were mobs of us hitting all the houses. These days, people don't seem to want to be bothered with people knocking at their doors - or spend their good money on giving away candy. And for trick or treaters, there are more safety issues these days. But unlike my days, there are more Halloween festivities at parks, malls, and everywhere . . . so the focus isn't solely on trick or treating anymore. In any case, I'm glad there are lots of things to do for Halloween - even if trick or treating isn't as popular as when I was a kid.

We are the opposite where we live. We are getting more and more each year. I love it and don't mind them coming around. I always have plenty of candy in.
