Hello, mylotters! Nowadays internet is already a part of our life, to some people it really matters when he/she is totally cut from the internet. I'm sure that almost every mylotter here has experienced a day without internet or even longer. And my question is how long can you bear without internet? You can share your record or just predict how long you can live without internet. It starts from me: I don't like laptop, coz they don't give me wonderful game experiences, so i chose PC, last time when i went home and i left my PC in my dorm, i had 7days without internet, at the very beginning it really freaks me out, and later by reading books i calmed down a little bit, but it doesn't last long enough, from day 5, i began missing internet and really wanted to check my gmail and mylot. I don't know how i made through the last 2 days, but 7-day is my longest record without internet.

Happy mylotting!

I agree with you. But it takes time to adept to life without internet. Just like the movie " Cast away" when all of a suddern you are cut from the environment you are familiar with, you need time to adjust yourself to the new one. Thank you so much for sharing! Have a nice day and enjoy mylotting!

I'm from China, Tom Hanks's movie " Cast Away" is in our English textbook in the charpter of friendship. I remeber it's a volleyball but not a soccer ball, i can't recall the exact name of the name. I remeber Tom Hanks played a Fed-EX manager Chuck Noland, movie begins with he use Fed-EX send something from U.S to Russia, on his way to Malaysia, his plane crushed, he spent 1,500 days with his volley ball friend on the island. Have a nice day!

I just used the movie "Cast away" yesterday as an example also, LOL. Yup, that movie was so good and realistic, I remember his friend the soccer ball, what was it's name? I can't recall it anymore. Well, your right about that, adjusting is also a very difficult thing to do and takes some time.

I grew up without computers, it was great. But now, I am so used to living with it, I cannot live a day without it. I am addicted to it. It's my life line to the world and business.

Wow, blackberry addict! I do also have a Blackberry 8110, but here in China, we don't have affordable BIS services, and we are looking forward to some changes. Currently most people use gmail app on Blackberry to get emails. How about you?

I love my laptop!!! Love it Love it Love it!!! For me if it doesn't get online, we have no computer, even though we also have a desk top computer... I am online at least every evening before bedtime, it has taken the place of reading a book. I know that sounds so bad, but it's the truth. And usually several hours during the day... Also we use netflix in our family and love it. We don't really have a tv, well only a converter box that only occasionally pick up 2-3 channels. So really pretty worthless. However we love movies..and of course you need a computer (laptop) for this, at least for instant watch. We probably instant watch on a daily basis. So another words, my family can't make it long without a computer and definantly not long without the laptop. I feel like I need a spare..

The longest time I went without the Internet was 2 weeks. I am just so addicted to the internet it felt like I was having psychological withdrawal during that time. I think that the internet really is the "opiate of the masses" in this era of information and technology.

Your 2-week experience is much longer than mine! Internet is a double-blade sword, it helps a lot, it does also hurt :-( Thanks for the response!

You can surf the internet without a computer because nowaday the cellphone's network is great, 3G is available, there're also great cellphones like apple, g1 and others. Only limit to cellphone is data plan if you ran out out of your data plan it's really dangerous then. It'll be great if you can have a unlimited data plan. Thank you so much for the response. Have a nice day!

Hi! I don't know maybe for a day only and after that I will need to find internet connection. I have many things and activities that I like and routinely to do in the internet. So, when I'm not online is just like I missing something in my daily life.

When think about this, i began to think about my parents and their parents. My grandparents live in the rural area of East China, in their time,no electricity, infrastructure not able to survive so many wars, warlordrism, CPC-KMT civil war, Japanese Invasion, Civil War after WorldWarII ended, electricity infrastructure only available in big cities like Shanghai, so they are accustomed to life without electricity. And their children my parents can't make it without electricity. I mean no matter where, even a country dominated by dictator, the tide of human progress can't be stopped, the only point is the speed. Someday we will all enjoy what human progress bings to everyone. Have a nice day~

Hmm if I am hooked on the computer by doing something really important and I had to get off the computer then I could only hold it for a day or so however if it was nothing important to do on the computer then I could say a week or even longer - depends on how bored I am and how I feel because if I am really bored of watching TV or going out then I will just end up sitting infront the Television.

I found TV boring after i heavily addicted to computer and internet! Chinese TVs are always old school, didactic and only tell the positive stuffs, that's the reason why i prefer internet to tv, even though there's strict censorship on the network in China, but we still have our own ways to avoid that. Thanks for your response! Happy mylotting

In April this year, I had to live at my dad's house without a computer or any means to connect to the internet. I REALLY missed it the first..oh, say month but then I realised I had to get used to it. Buh-bye yahoo answers, myspace, wikipedia, aol news, and the whole world. I stayed at his house until August, and was once again reunited with lady www in Sept. To be honest, I could live without it if I had a steady supply of other means to connect to the world. Like, a free newspaper, a library, cable tv (because if you think about it-the internet provides all these things in one) otherwise I would be like the guy from Castaway..might as well be livin' on an island..or under a rock. ;ob To make a long story short, yes I could. But I would be bored and sad from lack of a convienient way to connect to the world.

I agree with you, we could make it but we need to be very desperate first, meanwhile you need to be totally cut from the internet, a little bit similar to Castaway; then we need time to adjust ourselves, it's just another way of living, another life style. 3 months is a long time, i can't imagine that, it will freak me out. Thanks for sharing, have a nice day!

It's really my pleasure that i can have your first response! Internet cafes are also easy to be found here in most places in China, but there're also places where it's Mission Impossible, like some of the places in the remote areas in the west provinces in China. Thank you for your response. Have a nice day!

Quite frankly, I could stay without the internet, but I cannot stay without the internet connection. Know what I mean? The net is on, and I'm at my other work. I just know its on and I can sit any time. But for some reason when they cut off the connection, then I get all fidgetty. And then it seems that I have all the time in the world, and I just cannot use the net. Irritating feelings, is it not?

It feels a bit weird at first then it feels uncomfortable but the fact is...there is always something to do. I can go for as long as it takes. I always spend too much time ton the computer on the internet. I don't do my chores because I'm on the net and I have lots of organising of photos and such to do as well but I spend time on the net. I wish there were only certain days I could access it. No, I don't really mean that.

Hi there kianli! I am very dependent on the use of the internet. Aside from using it to communicate with family and friends, I also use it for my work. I depend on the internet for my lectures. When I prepare my lectures, I make sure I get to check the internet for updates on certain topics. Maybe a day or two would be enough. I don't know if I can bear more than that.

without the internet I couldn't work. All our programs at work are internet based. I guess we'd have to work the old way, with paper files, etc. It's funny how important my cell phone has become to me! I honestly don't like leaving home without it.
