Asylum Seekers coming to Australia.

Australia

Hello everybody. I live in Perth, Australia and on the news every week there is always a new boat or ship full of asylum seekers from war-stricken countries trying to seek refuge in Australia. Every boat we have intercepted and we haven't let any Asylum Seekers into our country. Australia is large though and I'm sure that many people think it's unfair that we don't just let them live in Australia considering our amount of space and they have nowhere to go. My opinion is that they shouldn't be let in or we will have thousands of foreign people flooding into Australia and we need to be strict with our customs. What do you think should happen with the Asylum Seekers trying to get to Australia?

these people are desperate - you can't really send them back to get killed. i don't know about australia but here asylum seekers only make up a small proportion of immigrants anyway.

Yes it is true the people are desperate and they have the right to be. I agree with you when you say you can't send them back to be killed but there are laws and we can't just let anybody who wants to come into Australia in. Especially since we don't know of their origins, they could be murdering thiefs. Although that may be a little judgmental and stereotypical on my behalf we might let someone in we wont want in. It is a difficult topic indeed. Thanks for your response!

well i think your discussion is more about immigration in general - which is a different kettle of fish altogether.
