silent abuse in the school system

I have a 10 year old son in the 5th grade attending Spann Elementary in pueblo colorado. On Friday his teacher slammed him in his chair and slapped him across the face. The teacher stated that my son was only defending himself against another child who was biting him, by kicking him off of him, and that the teacher had no right to do it and felt bad. I have never had a problem with this teacher aside from my gut feeling and some negative vibes that I have gotten from them. I will be pressing charges against him for child abuse. In a way I feel bad but at the same time he hurt my child and it can not go over looked. Has anyone ever went through something like this and what kind of advise do you have for me. If any one has ideas of any-type of violence or retaliation against the teacher or school it's self, please keep it to your self as I have more control over my feelings and want the focus to be on the teacher and his actions not and irate mother. Thank you.

I think you are right in the actions you are taking! But I don't think you should feel bad, and something like this should not be overlooked!

You are right. I can't spare this teachers feelings when he hurt my son's feelings. My son comes first, and I feel he is no longer safe in this school. I have a hard time wanting him to attend any school in this town as I have had problems with other schools as well. Not to the extent of my son being abused, but problems that until now I have overlooked, that could potentially damage my sons future. Who do you trust when your teacher brakes that trust that you should have in an adult that is in part responsible for your education.

Very well said, your son's future is what needs to be protected at this time, above all else!

I cannot believe a teacher would really do that! Aren't teacher supposed to love kids?? This just goes to show you how bad this world is getting to be, I suppose. I say to take it to court and get this publicized!! This is a terrible crime, and this supposed "teacher" needs to have his/her license revoked.

I can't agree with you more. I defiantly plan to take this to court, and I have 3 other writing sites that I have posted this on, so that people know that these things do go on in schools and if something has happened like this, it is wise to believe your child and investigate. So repost my discussion on any other sites you have, so it circulates. Thank you.

I haven't had that kind of problem yet, but if I do I just hope that I can be as calm as you are. Good luck with everything.

If it ever happens to you or someone you know, just remember that before you go in fighting, you want the focus to stay on the behavior and actions of the teacher. If you take the law into your own hands you will be the focus not the problem at hand.
