Do you feel the Christmas Spirit?

Christmas is fast approaching and I have not seen much Christmas trees nor Christmas lights around. I notice that not too many people are excited for Christmas. When I was young, I always thought of Christmas that I can receive presents and then we light up some fire crackers. These things happen as early as September. This year I have not feel the Spirit of Christmas anymore. Is there a difference between the previous Christmas? Why is that so. I thought that the celebration of the coming of the Messiah can never change. Merry Christmas Everybody. HOHOHO...

I always get excited for Christmas but it seems that this year I'm actually getting more excited for Christmas much earlier than I normally do. I'm ready to start decorating and putting up our tree and wrapping presents even though I don't have many presents to wrap. It's always a magical time and I truly hate that it's lost it's fun since I've grown up.

That is really great. I have not feel much Christmas spirit yet. I think that it is maybe the fact the people are not yet decorating their houses and the decoration are getting more expensive each year. I don't think that the fun is lost when you grew up. You just forgotten on how you have celebrated it when you were young.

Not yet. In our house, we don't put up Christmas decorations or do anything Christmas-y until after Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a great family holiday that is overlooked too often so I made a rule to observe it. Anyone who violates the "no Christmas till after Thanksgiving" rule has to put money into the pot. Needless to say, on the day after Thanksgiving, we spend the time taking down the autumn decor & putting up the Christmas stuff. It's become a family tradition in our house and our kids (now 10 & 15) look forward to it every year. Their little cousins (5,9,11) even want to come over to help.

I also love the decorations when it comes to Christmas. I can really sense a different season coming when it comes to Christmas time. There is a change in the air, the climate and everything. I hope all the people would have a positive outlook on Christmas and spend it joyfully every year.

I am very exciting for Christmas that is upcoming this year. I know that our family will not start our decorating until at least the 5th of December because we like to keep Christmas separate from our daughter's birthday, but I am starting to feel the way that I always do when Christmas is approaching. I've gotten the majority of my Christmas shopping done and I know that I am not going to feel stressed out as the season approaches.

Wow, that is really a good way to start out. Christmas shopping is a really busy day in the mall. I understand how hard it is to go to the mall during this season. That is really nice to separate the celebration of your daughter's birthday from Christmas. Advance Happy Birthday to your daughter and Have a Merry Christmas.

I think not many people are excited by it because so many have had financial issues over the year. Many people don't have as much money to spend so Christmas this year for many families is a lot tighter. There aren't that much gifts, there won't be a huge dinner feast and sorts. It's definitely a sacrifice so I think many are a bit saddened about it. I still feel the Christmas spirit though because it's my favorite time of the year, regardless of whether or not my family celebrates.

Maybe financial problem is also one of the reasons why people are very hesitant on spending much for Christmas. It is also my favorite time of the year. I really am excited for this Christmas even I have nothing to spend. I really like to celebrate this Christmas as the best Christmas like I always do.

I love Christmas! It was way different as a kid. I use to actually feel like "in the movies" all warm and cozy when I'd be sitting in the living watching a christmas movie with the tree and house lights on in the dark. I LOVE IT! But it changes when you get older but, I still try to keep the spirt alive!

I am not feeling the Christmas spirit yet. I don't have much money to spend on Christmas this year. I also have not seen anyone put up any lights yet. I have seen all the decorations in the stores that I can't afford to buy though which makes me a little sad.

I feel you too. I don't have much money too and worst is that I am still waiting for a job so I am not really feeling the Christmas Spirit in this sense... The stores have started to make displays, but the people are not feeling Christmas. I have not seen any houses who's started to decorate. Have a Merry Christmas to you.

Hi marctiu... I think we are in the same country. In our country we celebrate Christmas as early as September. What you have seen now was just the aftershock of the effect of the sequinces of typhoon who have been in the country for the past months. Because of that a lot of people really are in great crisis now. They still wanted to do decors as early as that but that was not their priority now. I think you are from Luzon. But in our place here in Mindanao is different from what you have notice in your place. In here almost everyone had hang on their lighted lanterns already. Put up the Christmas tree and their are already lights everywhere. I knew this since in our malss people bought decors already last september. I was one of them. Actually I am already done with our tree decorations just last Nov.3,2009. It only needs the last star to be lighted on the Christmas Eve. That is our family tradition. Christmas Spirit is still in everyones heart. And I think it is not measured of how extravagant your decors are. As long as you know how to share, understand, forgive and Love, Christmas is in your heart. Remember what the seasons bring. Remember that it is the birth of a king that chose to be born as a simple man.

Hello there, jndlponti. I am actually from Cebu and we are not affected by the typhoon here. I think that the crisis must have hit the people here in Cebu because only few have lifted their Spirit of Christmas here. It is really lonely not to see Christmas lights nor even a Caroler to sing songs for Christmas. I really think that somethings have change. It is really different on how we celebrate it a long time ago. That is really nice that many of you there in Mindanao have started to buy decorations for Christmas. I agree with you. Christmas is not all about the decorations or the presents. Christmas is about the Love to one another and the sharing of blessing God has provided to us. Enjoy this Christmas. Have a Merry Chrismas!

sure , i feel christmas spirit, a lot, also beacause there are a lot of shops here who have exposed christmas items, and in a lot of shops there are christmas trees and other christmas things. I would like to pass this christmas with my girlfriend, maybe in a house in the mountain, alone near the fire in the living room, with the snow outside, this will be amazing.

That is really cool. I like your plan this Christmas. I think that it will be splendid that you spend your time with your girlfriend. I am sure that she will be very happy and satisfied. Good luck. I have not seen so many stores in my place making display on Christmas items. I have only seen this on big malls, but not on some small store. Actually just today, I pass down on a big mall in my place. They just started to decorate the mall. I really think that there is a delay on the Christmas spirit nowadays.

I am excited, but I know once I get the tree up I will be in the spirit. The day after Thanksgiving my husband and I will be going to a dinner in the park where you have to donate a toy to the toys for tots drive. I love donating to the toys for tots drive because to me Christmas is all about the children. In the park the city will light up the tree and the city lights. There will be Christmas carols and kids collecting money for a charity called Shop With A Cop.

i think you are from the philippines (is that right? i live there too). anyway, it's a misconception of most people to relate Christmas spirit to things that are seen. (e.g. christmas trees, lights, fireworks, food etc). But basically, as long as we give gifts to each other with full of love and care, then Christmas spirit will be always alive. I don't mean go to a boutique and buy an expensive gift, but you know, just hugging your relatives and those who broke your heart for the past years (or you broke theirs) is a more expensive gift for them and also rewarding to yourself. :)

I'm so excited for Christmas! I wasn't up until a couple of weeks ago when I realised just how soon it was! I have now finished all of my Christmas shopping, all I have to do now is buy some decorations and get the food and drink in and I'm done!!! I will be even more excited once I have everything I need in! I am hosting Christmas for my family this year, for the first time ever!!! So it's going to be a bit more stressful for me, as I am going to have to buy everything and make sure I haven't forgotten anything!!! But it's going to be so much fun! I can't wait! I adore Christmas, always have ever since been a kid (of course!) but it's always been more about giving other people the gifts I have bought them than getting things for myself, though it is fun to get presents and open them up!!! Always prefer lots of little presents than big presents!!! I will be much more excited for Christmas once I get my decorations up at the beginning of December, and when I start counting down the days! At the minute nowhere seems very Christmasy at all yet, and you wouldn't think it was only just over a month until Christmas to look around! But yes I am very excited for Christmas! I cannot wait to get everything sorted and have everything in the cupboards ready for Christmas!

Here, we wait until after Thanksgiving (last Thursday in November) to really get into the swing of things. I have been making presents and so have started feeling the spirit!

Yes its like that when you are young you look forward to Chritmas with the gifts and visiting going to places and all that but when you grow up, everything changes when you have to grow you have other priorites like taking care of your family and paying billss. This takes away some of the Christmas fun

I live in the Netherlands and the Christmas "spirit" falls over the country in mid-November, in the shape of faestive decorations and loud carols in the shopping malls filled up with stores offering numerous discounts... Kids are all over the place, the ideas of presents are buzzing in the air and .... I just don't get it... I grew up in the idea that the presents and decorations are only a lovely side-effect of what is the most important - the birth of the Jesus. That's what we celebrated every year with fasting in the Christmas Eve, having a lovely meat-less family dinner at 8 pm and going to midnight mas afterwards. Here, you don't do that - you have the Christmas tree (for kids) and regular dinner... and presents. ANd that's all. I just don't feel it!
