Pure religion is biblically defined as caring for widows and orphans in their distress and abstaining from sin. I once heard NBA Hall of Famer, Julius Irving, say, “No man stands taller than he who stoops to help a child.” There are thousands of helpless children in this country, as well as in foreign lands, who need assistance from able families who a good and, particularly in my mindset, Christian home. There is no better way in this world to express our religion than to open our homes and our hearts, and pocketbooks, to foster or adoptive children. If we do not assume this responsibility, we must each ask ourselves if our religion is proper. James 1:27 ”Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”

Some versions of the Bible say it's "pure religion" to look after the widows and orphans and keep oneself unspotted from the world. I've been a foster parent most of my adult life. We have fostered more than fifty children. Most of those children went back to their biological family, but in the last less than four years, we have adopted three times from the foster care system, bringing our total number of children to ten. Next month, I may even be fostering again, and we are looking forward to it, IF it happens. If anyone is interested in foster care and adoption, I have a blog about it: raleyfamilysfarm.blogspot.com

I admire your dedication. We also did quite a bit of foster work, but oly adopted one special needs child. Now we are raising her two children!
