do you know Taiwan province in China ,if you have Chinese friends ,you must have heard of the Taiwanese and Chinese special relationship,some people attempted to
make Taiwan Independent ,I think that's impossible,but some foreign organization and people always want to intervene the internal affairs of China ,so when you touched the topic about "Taiwan and China ", you must be very cautious

The examples like this exists on the world for a long time , no doublt, the result is blocking of network in Mainland once CPC(communist party of China) found this.
I usually registered in many foreign websites, unexpected, I have to choose the option between Taiwan and China ,it's uncomfortable for us Chinese citizens,
if these websites wants to develop the markets in China, they have to avoid this topic, it's a very sensitive issue, I think foreign websites are not deliberate, but they should consider this .

It still beats me why mainland China would not just give Taiwan it independence. If you look closer, Mainland China has more than enough land area and more than enough population to take care of. Is it greed? To think that Taiwan was able to develop its own without the help of the mainland is more than enough reason that Taiwanese can stand up on their own. Than mainland may have its own reasons, politics is one but to a laymans stand point when someone wants something that is more than he needs its already called greed. But that's just my opinion. hwj, in my country, what we know is taiwan is independent from china because that is what is read from the book. We dont care about your internal affairs. However,what we know is that Taiwan is different from mainland china but people from Taiwan are Chinese from mainland. And they do have another president, how is that anyway, friend?

Yes, hwj, you're right! It's a sensitive problem. So I think some foreign websites are clever enough to give option by "written charater" instead of "country". I think even if "region" is better than "country". You know it's not unique problem just in China, but several countries and regions also meet this problem.
I think there are so many reasons. As a citizen, I cannot do anything except accepting it. I'm so sad for this situtation, but what makes me glad is both of us use the same language and similar written charaters! It's not hard for us to talk with each other, communicate by mails!
