My friend who is just pregnant bought lots of CD to listen to during her pregnancy and after her baby is born. She said that it's proven that certain music can make the baby smarter, and more gentle in nature. I only know that I get mellow when listening to romantic music and gets terrified when the hard rock mettalica ones are on (LOL). What's your opinion about this ?

This is true. Teachers in my school all believe this so they put their 80's butt rock on to make us "smarter".

to be honest i really dont know. But most of my friends and i do listen to music when we do homework or whatever. But look up like science journals or studies about this topic to see if this is true or not. But what i have been told by teachers and stuff that it is true.

Did it work ? Does this mean that kids who study at home while listening to the radio are smarter than those who like to study in total silence ?

I think this is true. I had also read an article saying that music can make children smarter. But they said that only classical music can do this. I don't know why other musics can't. There must be something in classic songs. Upon reading the article I immediately grab myself a classic song. I kept on listening to it everyday. Wahahaha. I know I'm no longer a child but they said it's okay. I haven't noticed any improvements in my thinking. Lol. But sure I was relaxed. Classic songs are really nice to listen to. shadow41

Lol Godmother. Have you gotten yourself a copy now? Hehe. By the way, are you asking if Mozart was a genius? In the field of music he certainly is. He's a very talented composer. There's something to his music. It's mystical. shadow41

Even in my family too, elders say that music or Religious chantings are good for the baby inside the stomach. So they ask us to listen to stotrams and mantras and good music.

I don't know about just listening to music making kids (people in general) smarter, although I can see how it could be true, but I know there have been studies that prove playing music helps kids with their math and reading skills because they have to use both actively while playing music, almost more actively than they would in a math or reading class. All of the notes are fractions of a whole and playing music requires the musician to process fractional math at a very quick pace. They have to be able to know that if a whole note is four beats, the half of that is 2, a quarter of that is 1 and so on... Also a musician who can't read ahead of where they are in their sheet music and anticipate what is coming rarely ever excels. They may be good but they rarely ever become great.

Wow, Prenatal training is very important to the intelligence of the kids and I am sure the music will be one of the aspect in the prenatal training. I did not have much experience in this as I did not experience for that. But I heard that the classical music will help to develop the intelligence of the kids, esp for the stage while they are in their month's uterus. I think it should be careful while selecting the music type. If your friends choose the rock music, I am just concerned the babies are be very naughty when they come to the world. People tell that the music from Beethoven, Mozart and the Bech is very good only if the baby's mother can take that if she is not a fan of classical music. Have a nice day.
