Wanna know that is there many people have their PC on 24/7? My friend has a Apple iMac and he had never turn it off since he got it 2 years ago. I myself turn off during sleep and on day, I leave it on or either go stand by.

I shut down my PC everytime after working on it for 4 to 5 hours.I fear that the heat produced while using continuously will damage my PC.I keep it on for long hours while downloading movies and I usually do that at night. It is very rare to find people who keep there PC turn on for days.Still it is really interesting to know from you about your friend. Mostly people using there personal servers, big institutions use super computers, etc keep there system on all the time and that also in properly ventilated room and it is a must for them to keep it like that.

Contrary to what you may think, it's the people who turn off their systems who's the rarest. At least, these days; 10 years ago I'd have probably agreed with you. The internet has become such a streamline of information and communication network that people just can't quite unplug from it. Downloads, chats, etcetera; machines stay up running 24/7 just so that a moment's notice something can be done or something said to someone. Personally, I'm running 24/7, and if your system is properly cooled, it won't matter it'll be running for that long (Although, of course, the parts to have a limited life time and what will probably last me 8 years could last you 16, but since nobody will keep a PC for that long).

My main computer is on 24/7. Serves files, leaves me always ready to access the Internet or an application needed on a whim, can stay like so to make downloads overnight, etcetera. I find great applications for such, although, it's arguable that the power bill justifies it; if anything however that I'm not worried about is the life time of the PC, since it'll outlast its useful life.

hi mfbz hi again I always turn my computer off when I go to bed, other wise its on all day as I am usually on the internet anway.and too it takes a bit of doing to get it booted and passworded and all the other steps so why not' just leave it on during the day. it does not cost me anymore' and is much more convenient too.

it's not wise for me to turn on my personal computer when i'm not using it, i'm only put in a standby mode if i got to eat or do something in a short while...turning on and off your personal computer three times or 6 times does hurt your power supply?
