For those of us trying to lose weight (and failing miserably, haha), I'm curious as to what successful weight loss diets/exercises/what-have-you others have done. I know it's all about what you eat too.

hi rina308. i have been on a diet since mid-september and i have lost about 20lbs already. on this diet, i never starved myself. being a mom really do not motivate us from losing weight. i just woke up from my dazed state when i discovered that i was already 40lbs overweight. true that i am strong and can lift my 4 year old who is almost 40lbs (same as the weight that i need to lose) but i have started hating having my pictures taken. and the final straw was when i saw my ID picture in all my glorious largeness and i've never been really thin all my life. i was just a little overweight but not almost obese. here's what i did but first you really have to be determined in your goal. i wrote down everything i ate in a notebook. better if your notebook is like a planner that is divided by day. you'll be surprised at how much junk you put into your mouth without knowing it. i also created an account for free at www.fatsecret.com where i can log on my current weight, all my food and exercise, join challenges, get tips from other members and even have buddies to motivate you. i liked badminton and one time that i went to play i met friends who play regularly. so i joined in. whenever there's a chance to walk, i walk. when shopping, i go around first before buying my stuff. and of course i cut back on the calories. i read labels. one bag of chips is not 1 serving but more. when i crave for chocolates, i eat chocolates but in moderation. it's a total lifestyle change and the weight will not come soaring back just like in fad diets where you end up sick. when you see the scales starting to budge you'll become more motivated. drink lots and lots of water. if you can eat little amounts of food as often as 3 hours interval all day. this will help speed up your metabolism. when i lost 17 lbs and did not lose any the following week, i changed my diet. i was afraid to plateau this soon. i've a long way to go. i bought herbalife as meal replacement so that my diet has "system". so i lost 3 more lbs. i've just been taking herbalife for a week and the results were okay. right now i have a bag of chips in my purse. as moms, we also must love ourselves. i felt better after that 20lbs came off my body. i gave away a lot of my big clothes. goodluck.

hi rina. haha! you know if you really want something you will make an effort for it. last year my hubby enrolled me in a gym (not a cheap one at that. one of the top gyms in the country) and even bought me new gym shoes as gift because i was excited but i was half-hearted in losing weight so i did go to the gym but ate as much or not go at all. this went on for a year until i realized i was just wasting money. i also bought tea laxatives. i tried going on a fad diet. i couldn't sustain. i just ate and ate and would look wistfully at my pre-baby clothes which i couldn't give away. now i've realized that i really really wanted to lose weight. i bought acai berry also and it's good but i now have green tea from Herbalife so i stopped. i found it hard before because i did not research. i read a lot of diet tips and found one that worked for me. i suggest you check out the website i posted. being a mom is not a reason to be less attractive. it's great to see people who are surprised to find out you have a kid already. i am halfway my goal but i'm already loving my body.

Hey Mommyfied, I joined a few hours ago! Add me up, my username is Taba308 :) I know what you mean about pre-baby clothes. I still (guiltily) have a few stored somewhere in my closets. It's painful seeing them and my partner wanting to throw them out. I'm not doing so well my first day (eating a whole lot and not doing exercise) but at least I am reading so much and learning so much about how to lose weight. I thought you have to basically starve yourself (I see a lot of my friends doing that) but I realized that's not the key! Where do you buy herbalife? I don't think I've ever heard of that before.

Hi Mommyfied! As I was reading your reply, I completely saw myself in what you are saying. I actually was nodding at what I read! I have never been really stick thin, but I used to love my body a lot (sorry if that sounds vein). Now I hate taking my pics, I usually just take a picture of my kid and always offer to take pics of other people. I've started writing stuff on a "food diary" a while back, but of course I never got past two days of writing the stuff down. I also always make excuses about how I'm too busy to exercise, but now I'm going to think about you as motivation! 20lbs!!! Congratulations to you, and hopefully I can post about losing that much too! Much love - Rina

The most success I have ever had on a diet was 13 pounds on the Atkins diet. I must say though that it has to be done correctly, or weight loss will occur but health may not be so good, but if you read the book thoroughly and do it as it was designed it is both effective and healthy. The most successful workout I have ever done is Turbo Jam available on Beachbody.com. It is not a cheap DVD set but the work out is very effective. I lost 12 pounds doing that workout 6 days a week without any dieting what so ever, it took me about 8 weeks to lose that weight, but I ate what ever I wanted which was awesome.

Thanks Ladym! I'll see if I can get Turbo Jam somewhere. Did you get the Fat Blaster? Or the Cardio Party Remix? Thank you so much for the suggestion!

i hear Atkins is very effective especially for meat lovers but my friend collapsed while on the diet because she missed out on some essential carbs.

I don't think I'd want to faint or anything, and it's so hard for me to follow a strict diet. I'll probably be more successful with following my RDI for a day. :) But well, still striking out on day 2!! Sob sob sob!

For me only two things work 1) exercising and 2) sports. I usually do a lot of abdominal exercises and that allows me keep my tummy in. Even though in the last one year it has again managed to come out, I am pretty sure that I will arrest it again soon. The problem over the last 1 or 2 years is that I have completely stopped my sports and that has really affected me. Cheers! Ram

I do need a sport that could help me lose weight but not bore the heck out of me. Swimming is always good, but with no indoor pools around me and the weather getting cold, it seems to be out. Thank you for the tips! What sports do you play?

I used to play cricket and TT regularly. Now, I am planning to take up swimming, but it is winter time here, so again I probably will have to wait till summer before I join the swimming. Cheers! Ram

I think you should aim for atleast an hour a day that you get your heart rate pacing!! it could be a brisk walk, bike riding, cleaning, gardening, gym tennis anything that makes your heart pump that takes your breath a lil. Every one has different fitness levels and the level of activity might be different for alot of people but minuimum 1 hour of breathlessness activity and careful diet, is a lasting way to loose kilos and keep them off.

My tips? 1.) Coffee! Coffee helps supress my appetite pretty well. 2.) Make lunches for work, or school, or wherever you have to go. Make a big salad, or a healthy sandwich, and bring it with you. It's a little bit more work, but not only does it save you money - but it also FORCES you to eat healthy, instead of eating order or ordering delivery - which I used to do at work all the time. 3.) Cut out "fake" sugars and carbonated drinks. Whether or not these products are "diet" or "normal", doesn't really matter. Either way, carbonated drinks are just NOT good for you. The "normal" soft drinks, like Coke, have about 200+ empty calories, and MANY grams of sugar & carbs per serving, which I like to think goes straight to the thighs. LOL. And as for diet? Once in a while is OK, but you should never drink more than 20 oz per day if you can help it. These "fake" sugars (usually aspartame) cause us to end up gaining MORE weight because they screw around with our system and metabolism and cause us to crave carbs. (Seriously! Look it up!) 4.) Make exercise a part of your routine. And try to do things that are FUN. Once a week, me and a friend go play RACQUETBALL at her school - omigosh! It's an amazing workout, and it barely feels like we're working out because it's so much fun. I can't think of anything else on the top of my head. I feel like in the end, it boils down to your determination and the steps you take to get to your goal. Remember not to deprive yourself (as that usually ends badly), but to just make healthier choices, drink lots of water, and try to work out every day. Good luck to you!

My gym teather is slender and graceful in stature, she also tells us something about her successful experience of losing weight after she gave birth to a baby.losing weight does't have shortcut. She ate as much as usual, but she persevered in running at 5pm. everyday for half a year, she would running at least 1 hour everytime, thus she lost her weight sucessfully. Now she is about 1.63m tall and 48 kg weight.
