Most of us people are using different kind of antivirus software, and most of us also know that Norton is one of the oldest standing on the business. Now, do you still think that Norton ( http://smartdad.info/Norton.aspx ) can handle being one of the Best and one of the longest standing antivirus software, despite the fact of having lots of competitors? Do you already have a antivirus? and What are you using right now? Do you want to have a norton antivirus? ( http://smartdad.info/Norton.aspx ) or do you want to test new antivirus softwares? What can you say about norton antivirus and it's new bundles?

antivirus has become essential for net surfers and i don't think there would be anyone surfing net without an antivirus. since there are many free versions of antivirus it makes little sense to pay for it. some very popular ones are AVG, Avast, Avira. i am using Avira and am very much satisfied with its performance. earlier i was using AVG and Avast but both of them had some problems protecting my computer so i switched to Avira. in my case it was my experience that led me to use Avira (and ofcourse the fact that it is free). it also had very good reviews from various testers. also since i am satisfied with my antivirus i don't think i will go in to purchase another one.

O you are right about that, anti virus is very essential right now. I am using Panda right now, and my other computer is using norton, both are expensive but of course i have a website to secure that is why i use those. For my laptop i use Avira, cause it is ok, i do not connect my laptop to the internet often. Avira is good at blocking viruses coming from usb or any data storage and transfer device.

i wish you do realize your investments in terms of good security. is buying an antivirus a one time investment or do you have to pay an annual fee or something else?

I have used Norton when I bought my first computer. But soon I realized that my computer was running extremely slow and it was solely because of Norton. Although I changed its settings, I could not stop the thousands of alerts from coming up on my desktop not the software from slowing down my computer. I hate it. Although it secures my computer but I am not ready to accept the slowness of my machine. There are other softwares like AVG or KASPERSKY who provide similar security but does not slow down the computer so much.

I have a 500GB hard disk with 4GB RAM and still Norton slows the computer down. I have been using AVG for quite some time now and it is working fine on my machine. I update it regularly and it never gives me any trouble. My machine has not yet been affected by any malware or virus, as of now.

O i see, i remember what my friend told me about Norton, it really consumes a lot of spaces and memories, i do not know why he said it, he didn't explain it. Anyway AVG is ok in terms of that. It's just that maybe i have a bad experience about it that is why i don't want to recommend it.

You are right, it will really slow your computer cause Norton consumes a lot of memory, i think Norton is best to use if you have a high end computer. But it is really good, the only problem is that it is expensive. Anyway, AVG is also a good one, but my problem with that software is that my computer has been infiltrated with different viruses when i was using those. I updated avg always and still give me that kind of problem. AVG have lots of errors to other programs to, specially internet based software, sometimes we need to put it off before using a certain software, and that is a little bit dangerous. Sometimes it cannot detect dangerous viruses. That is why i switch to Norton then switch to Nod32 then switch to nothing but depend to myself to remove viruses manually.

O yes a lot of people are using AVG right now, although Norton is a good software, it seems that it is very expensive and with high requirements. But if you would like a high quality computer security, still the best is norton, that is, if we have enough money to maintain it. Most of the Big companies that i know uses norton, maybe because they have a money to spend for that. Anyway files of the company is the life of the company. Well AVG IS GOOD! IN FACT I ALSO USED IT LAST YEAR! BUT NOW I HAVE A DIFFERENT ANTIVIRUS. But it's not NORTON lol, cause it is expensive.

I don't say the best but one of the best, just like what i have said in my started discussion. Did you read it? And i think right now, there are lots of antivirus software that are much better than Norton. I am asking, do you think Norton can still prolong it's existence knowing the fact that there are still many good antivirus software around there and for free?

I'm sorry to say that I did't read carefully.I only want to express my thought. And I do not think Nordon can continue prolonging its exitence if they don't improve their product and have lower price. What's more, the market is competitive fiercly.

I agree with you about that, if they will be consistent on the pricing of Norton, i think in the near future, they cannot survive nor even prolong it's existence. The prices of their products are very expensive and the service is very slow, the only good about them is that, the security, but of course others can do it also, even some free anvtivirus software can do secure a pc. McAfee is a good one, i think Macafee and Norton are same in terms of length or existence.

Norton is very good, but expensive. If you are willing to pay the money every year to renew your subscription go for it. But I highly recommend AVG Free 9.0. It works wonders. Check it out at free.avg.com.

O yes you are right about that, Norton is a good one, but it is very expensive. I think Norton is advisable to Computers in big companies, cause those computers need a very good security and also the owners have the money for it. But if we will use it in our houses i think it is not advisable. Actually i do not like avg at all, because of the problems that it gave me the last time i used it. I think for free softwares, i will go for Nod32 and Spybot S&D.

I used it a very long time and right now I am using a much cheaper like Avira because they have it for free and they could detect virus the same rate as the licensed ones. Sometimes I find Norton to be too restrictive and once you installed it in a pc it will stick with your registry that when you uninstall it there are many entries that are left behind which causes problems with the OS at times. I have an experience of that when I bought a new laptop with Norton that was pre-installed with the laptop. It has a 60 days trial period when it expired I decided not to choose them as AV and uninstalled it but then my OS started becoming slower and I have to find a norton remover from their site to really clean the uninstallation.

Right now I am happy with Avira free as they are able to do what Norton and most licensed Av can do. They might not have a very good GUI like those paid AVs but they are not as intrusive on the registry that you can easily remove them from the system without any complications at all.

You are right about that, that is the problem with Norton, they attach their worms in the registry, but that is one security measure so that they can catch all the viruses even the stealth ones. Another problem is that if we will uninstall it, there are so many problems that occur, just like what you've said they stick in the registry and that makes them a little bit hard to remove in the system.

I tried different antiviruses but I found that Norton is the best, It make the system a bit slow, but virus will be 10 miles away from my system. NOrton is the best but ya it's costly.

You are right about that, it is very costly but it's worth the money. It is really good in terms of security, that is why they became one of the most famous and long running anti virus company in the world. They will really protect our system just like what we are expecting from an antiviris software, not just like ohter soft, they just display their icons for us ti think that they are protecting us but the truth is not.

This is what I use now! I use Norton 360 and I am very happy with it. I used to use a free version AVG free but decided to give that up. I haven't had any problems with my Norton antivirus product and I scan my system once per week and it is constantly updating itself which I like and feel is very important. I know some people don't like Norton but I personally haven't experienced any problems with it whatsoever. As long as it is working for me then I will always recommend Norton products. Andrew

I agree with you, also, Andrew, I have used Norton for 2yrs now, and haven't had any trouble with it at all, it does it's job, as far as I am concerned it's worth the money I pay for it! My computers came with it, so I just continued it! But if I get another computer that's different I may try some of the other ones, I just don't like changing, what is on there and working good!

O yes you both are right about that, Norton is really good. Specially you both have a paid version for it. The paid version is really a good one it's expensive though, but it's worth the money just like what you've said. You can also try others but you know it's worth sticking with that anti virus soft.

But it is really good, it's just that it is slow and a little bit expensive. Anyway thank you so much for sharing your point of view about this product. I appreciate it so much. have a nice day.

Hi, I like Norton Anti virus and they have over the time improved their product to consume less resources and work efficiently. But I am already using a product named Comodo Internet Security which is very great in detecting virus and malware and it has also got a very great firewall which has proved itself better than many commercial firewalls in different tests. Along with this great software, I am using Spyware Terminator which has integrated clamwin antivirus database to it's real time scanner and detects spyware and virus. But the main purpose I use it is because it detects and reports every activity that is going on in my system for which I did not previously give privileges and holds them till give it a go. It has also got an install mode when it never raises an alarm when we are installing a new application. These are the great tools I am using.

I've known norton for a while now but chose pccillin (atleast when I still had an AV). Pccillin (I think they call it Trend Micro Internet Security now) was the choice of the school I came from and so I used it as well. It was pretty good with the protection and didn't come at a very high price. It is also recommended by some PC magazines so I think it is better than others. Free AV is usually behind a little but norton isn't really my type. I heard symantec is know moving into utilities than security so I don't think their company is investing much in Norton AV too.

before Norton 2009, i can't give any compliments to the Norton Antivirus. because it takes much more RAM and con't runs smoothly. but now i use the Norton, and i bought a 3-PC key for 2-year's usage. i think from Norton 2009 the innner framworks have greatly improved. And what's most important is that it responds very rapidly and the newest version- that is the Norton 2010-has a much better interface. Of course, the ability of preventing and cleaning virus is great and perfect. i like it and enjoy it.

I was able to use norton for quite a while. But I shifted to another one since I find Norton quite heavy and it slows my computer. It typically good but I wanted something light yet effective. I have tried many other anti virus but now, I am using, avira. I do find it very good and fast.

We use avira for our laptops, and we find it fast too, but of course when we will talk about security, still the best are those antivirus who are already running for quite sometime, like Mcafee, Norton, AVG and etc. Thank you so much for the response.

Maybe the version is free? I think if it is a paid one it will really give a very good security the only problem with it is that, it is expensive. Anyway AVG is also good i jut don't feel having another one again. If you will ask me, i will recommend Nod32, Panda Security and Spybot Search and Destroy. Any way have heard about Quick Heal?

To be frank i would say a big no. when i bought a pc i used norton as my virus scanner . it gave me a lot of problems when i tried to start windows or shut down my pc it took a lot of time which made me to loose my patience and it also made my system slow when running an application and then i decided to uninstall it, it took a lot of time for uninstallation and im currently using avg so far good progress and my system goes well.

I think that are the old versions of Norton, they really run very slow and eat much of space in the system. I too myself loose my patience when i used the old versions but try the newer versions and they are good, specially the paid ones. The security is very strict and when you can your pc, Norton will scan it thoroughly. Avg is also good but try not to depend on free versions, cause free versions of avg really sucks, at first you thought there are no viruses that infected your pc, but if you will search the pc well, just like what i am doing, i am inspecting my computer for virus manually every week, you will find a lot of virus that can harm your files and even the secured files.

When I got my first pc I used Norton but I was not satisfied with its performance as it seemed vey complex and also slowed down my pc. Now I have a high end pc but I had ignorned Norton and switched to AVG, Kaspersky, quickheal and so on but none of them satisfied me. Suddenly I had installed Norton again after formatting my pc and what a miracle. Its not so slow but I am satisfied. Moreover, no viruses!!! I had dreamed about this that viruses cannot infilerate in my pc but failed everytime. After using Norton for past 6 months I am quite satisfied as I don't not to run here and there to free my harmed pc from viruses which was a mandatory for me almost every month before using Norton in my new PC
