When I joined college, my father helped me to select my course and subjects. He talked about the advantages of taking each subject and course in general but gave me freedom to select them myself. I am happy with what I have studied and got good job also. Who helped you to select your course and subjects while joining college?

Hello Buchi_bulla. When I was in high school, I was determined to major in English when I went to college because I was pretty good at English back to my high school age of all the subjects I was learning. So I made my own choice for the major I chose. When at college, English education naturally became my major.Since graduation from college, I have been engaged in what I learned at college. It is my favorite major as well as my favorite job as a teacher. I feel my life somewhat quite fulfilled to some extent.

It is really nice to know that you studied what you wanted and you are also in the profession that is in direct contact with the subject that you have learnt with interest. You will certainly have a good job satisfaction that will make you engage yourself heart and soul in your profession.

That is so nice to hear that your sister was helpful in the college admissions and selection of subjects and that your parents also were helpful in the matter of different fees. This family cooperation is the foundation for your successful college career.

Hi, Buchi. I am the one that selected the courses that I chose to study. Nobody helped me. I picked them all by myself. It was nice of you father to show you the right path in selecting your courses of study.

Oh! I am touched by your response friend. My father was always my source of inspiration and encouragement. He is no more. But you have reminded me of him now. Thanks.

I talked a bit with my oldest sister, but pretty much she went along with everything I was saying. I also talked to a counselor my Freshman year before starting and told her what I wanted to do and she helped lay out a general plan. Of course, after a year of study i wanted to change my major and go in a completely different direction which required me to talk to a different counselor. We were tole that an average college student will change their major up to 5 times. I guess i was OK with just the one time.

I have not studied in a college due to my father's super annuation. we have shifted from one state to the other and in that new place we have tried our best for a seat in all the colleges but they say that though I have passed in 1st class, there are no seats because they have got very limited seats and that is insufficient for their own students of the state. So I persuaded my typewriting and shorthand and passed in 1st class

That shows how much interest you had in getting a degree and could not succeed. I feel sad for it. Sometimes things will be beyond our control vathsala30. I scored very high marks in school leaving class and got admission in good colleges. Since my father's superannuation was approaching, he said he cannot look after full degree course for me. So I joined a Diploma and came first and got Gold medal too. No regrets for that. I completed my degree via correspondence course later.

When i joined college, i select my course and subjects by myself. In actully, i do not like it very much. Until now, I am very clear why i made this decision at that time..After graduated, i went to a better school to continue to my study to learn the same major. Now i am working hard for my PHD, Still i am not sure if i like it.. Although it is my personal decision....i have seen it as my responsbility to learn it...

That is why, it is better to consult known people, see the pros and cons of taking different subjects, courses and finally arrive at a decision on our own. Finally the decision will be ours only. These consultations will just help us to take that decision.

Nobody. I did it myself. A friend of mine told me some things and helped me with some advices about my course. I think that everybody has freedom choose what to study and what to work. That is a personal choice and everybody has the right to do with his own life whatever he wants.

Very true. After all it is our life and our interests. I wanted my son to take up engineering and he liked commerce and he was adament. But now I feel he took a correct decision. He is shining in his profession. But before taking a decision on course or subjects, if we take suggestions from known persons, then it may help taking our decision. But ultimately, as you said, it is our decision that matters. Thanks friend for the response.

I also like Maths and scored very high in that subject. But Science is too far for me. I just finished till my School education as it was compulsory and then I folded my hands to Science. I liked arts and commerce subjects later. Anyway getting first class is not the only criteria friend. My father was very studious in his studies and uncle so so in it. But my uncle got a good job and earned well than my father. Ultimately it is our luck that matters.

when i was about to graduate from high school,i was the only one who chose where to take an entrance exam for college. i was also the one who chose my course. but when i'm about to decide which school will i go, my mother was the one who told me to go to this certain school, which by the way is a center for development and a premier state university here in our country. i was half hearted that time because the other school that i passed is where the course i really want to be in. unfortunately i was pushed to that premier school and then i left it after a year.

That is so sad of it rjvb26. You could have talked to your mother and told her that your favourite course is in your school and you are interested to go there. Or may be you did and your mother influenced you to join the premier school. Any way, after leaving the premier school, what have you done for education continuation?

Hi Buchi,After I completed my 10th standard,I chose my subjects myself because its only me who can tell that what I am interested in and in what subject I can do better, though parents also think good for us,but my parents left it to me because they said that you can do more better in something if you are really interested to do it.And I think I am doing well in my studies and my parents also think so.

You had good maturity of mind that time and could take a correct decision on your own and your parents were also supportive to your decision. That is really nice of it. But sometimes mind oscilates and to arrive at a decision, we may need suggestions from knoledgeable prsons. But final decision will be ours only.

I am studying computer science engineering at present. At the time of my admission, suggestion came from all quarters of my relatives. It became utterly confusing for me. Too many suggestion can become very confusing at times. So, i had only one way out and that was to listen to my heart. My main source of support was my mom and dad. They of course gave their opinion on their choice and the merits and demerits of each course but never forced me to follow anything particular. And now i must say that i did a great job by listening to my heart because u will succeed only in those fields where your heart drags you.

Very very true. Your heart says about your interest. You show great results where you have interest. You did a good thing of taking your heart's selection.

Hi. I believe that the course I have studied was my father's dream. When I was young, I wanted to become a teacher. But my father wanted to have an accountant in the family. I followed his dreams because he was able to encourage me positively. He did not force me to take up accountancy. He just told me that I could still become a teacher if I take up accountancy. I asked him "how?" He told me that someday, I could become an accounting professor for college students taking up accountancy. Sad to say that I am not an accounting professor yet. But I was able to achieve my own dream of becoming a teacher when I worked in an audit firm for seven years. In addition to our audit activities, I was also given the chance to provide client and internal trainings/seminars.
