Hi friends, Worrying about something that has already happened in our life must be a complete waste of time. You can do nothing to change your past. Carrying our past worries is a big mistake and it will disturb our present life in a painful way. I have an opinion that we have to utilize the past to obtain useful lessons from the mistakes. Learning from the mistakes is always helping us to get success in our future life. Are you a person still worrying about your past? Please share your views.

Hi Sree! I believe in the future only. I do not crib about my past. Past is gone and I know it very well that it is not going to come back. I believe in living today because what lies in future is also not known. I enjoy my ‘today’ rather than worrying about the past events. If I take a decision, I do not repent, I feel that at that point of time, I would have taken a suitable and wise decision. No doubt, I am the first one to learn from my past mistakes and errors. Life is a learning process and we get to learn each day of life and the journey continues till we are alive. I have seen some of the people regretting about their past and cursing themselves, I think, it is a negative trait, which can make a person more depressing.

Hi Kala, I never worry about my past…thankfully I have this wisdom to understand that what’s been done can never be undone. One thing Kala I’ve noticed that most people wont accept their past mistakes…rather they would hide behind excuses but that is all so wrong…our mistakes if we acknowledge them with open minds, are a wonderful opportunity to learn valuable lessons from. I remember the past only when I don’t want to repeat some things…some bad childhood experiences, some bad career decisions, some bad behavior, wrong reactions to situations…remembering them cautions me against making the same mistakes or helps me in guiding my son better. I hide nothing from him…whenever I see him making the same mistakes, I sit down with him, talk about my past and how I suffered so that he can understand and rectify himself.

Hi sudipta, It is true dear, the things done in past never can be undone. I felt embarrassment sometime about my wrong reactions and it is good to learn from the same and try to avoid in future. Regarding kids I learnt many things from them. My 2 1/2 year old is the supervisor at home for finding my mistakes.(lol)

Hi sree What you say and think is absolutely correct and practical. Actually I don't bother about past. What happened is happened. When we can't change it, atleast we need not waste our time by recollecting the bygone thing. Keeping in mind the past and mistakes in it if any, I will act in the present and plan for the future

You are correct. But it can not be avoided that there are things that you did in the past that you still feel guilty of and you can not just forget about. It's good to learn from past mistakes but sometimes it's hard to forget them. I guess there's always a feeling of guilt whenever you recall those mistakes. Cheers!

Hi ybong007, I agree with you, even if we really wish to forget about the past completely it is not possible to major percentage of people. It is easy to tell everyone that 'think positively', but in practical it is difficult to observe. But this is life and we have to move on. Let the time heals the wounds. Thanks for sharing your views. Have a nice time.

I agree with you, what happened in the past will remain in the past, and can't run fast enough to catch you! We have all commited mistakes, so we should learn from them so they won't happen again. Even if we're the only animal that will trip twice in the same stone, we have to learn not to trip a third time :)

Hi madteaparty, It is a fault of us if we can’t learn the lesson from the first mistake. Let us try for not doing the same mistake again and again. Thanks for sharing your views. Have a nice time.

I was very timid till recently. Due to this nature, I was taken for a ride by my in-laws. Now I am better than before. If I keep quiet for two times also, third time I will give back. But the past is haunting me. I feel I should have talked like this, behaved like this. I know it is of no use. But I feel I have been taken for a ride. This is utter self pity. But I cannot avoid.

Hi Buchi, We all are human beings and doing some errors are humane. I think major percentage of people worried about their past and think that ‘ I could avoid that kind of talk etc’ even if there is no use on it. So take it easily, time can heal the wounds. Not repeating the same mistake is the best method to get relief. Thanks dearand have a great day.

Hi streekala, Although things come to mind sometimes, I do not let the past determine how I feel today. If something is causing us a lot of worry, we may need to bring it to the forefront of our thoughts and realize that there is nothing else we can do about it. Tell yourself that and then return it to the past with the thought that it will trouble you no more. Once we have made a decision and moved on, it's pointless to think that we shouldn't have done that or we should have done this. Whether it's five minutes ago, five hours ago or five years ago, we can't change it so leave it in the past and move on with your Life. Blessings.

I'll admit that there have been times when I'd think about things in my past that I have regretted ever doing. However, I really try not to worry about it or even think about it. After all, there is absolutely nothing I can do about it now. It's just not worth it, in the end. I'd much rather worry about things that I can control in the present moment, things that I can do something about.

Hi dodo19, It is good to know that you realized the importance of forgetting about the past and you are hundred percent right 'there is absolutely nothing I can do about the past'. We have to move on and work for the future instead of worrying about past. Thanks for the wonderful words and have a great time.

I do agree with you as the past should be totally discarded as if one keep on recalling the past it would only result to depression which is not good for one health. As past could find it cure to the present of not totally forgotten but at least minimize to the sense that one could still be a responsible person without being affected that could still move to make his/her desires achieve at a targeted deadlines. Though, past may also serve as an inspiration to do well in the present and though past events could not be erase on the mind as it already part of what we are now as it becomes one of the contribution to become a better person. The challenges which the past bring could also serves too as an inspiration to do well in every decision one have to made to become even wiser.

Hi neelia, You mean, our past should be an inspiration for us so do not discarded it completely. I felt your observation is very meaningful because even though we can’t do anything with our past or undo our past, it is good to keep the same with us, of course in a positive way. In other words, our past should be helpful for the better future, not for worrying or wasting the time. Well said dear, thank you so much and have a great time.

Hi sreekala, Past is always a past we should forget about it and think about our future. From our past we should always learn the mistakes wat we did and we should not make the same mistakes again. we should always learn out of them. Thinking about our past will lead to worries and also a waste of time and also we cannot live a peaceful life. Have a great day

I don't sit and ponder on what has happened in the past and believe me, a lot has happened in my life. But there are days when I wish I could go back and change a few things. Of course if we could do that we need to realize that things could always become worse then they are right now, or were in our pasts. But I do learn lessons from my past.

Hi, Sreekala! I agree with you that we cannot do a thing about the past, but if that was something we regret of, what we can do is take that as a lesson and learn to improve to be a better person. I guess some people are still worrying about the past because they might have dark secrets that have haunted them and afraid they might surface one day. I can't say that I am able to forget what I did in the past, but for sure I will avoid myself of doing those mistakes again and as I believe in God, I will ask for his forgiveness. I have learned enough.

Hi Sreekala, my past hasn't been very pleasant. And though the matters have been resolved completely in my favor of late, I still remain in that self pity phase. Like - they said like this, how could they. Why didnt they ask me, they could have asked me, they asked them, they trusted them, and isn't that shameful, and so on. It serves no purpose, I know. After all, everybody has finally come round. So I spend more time on things that divert my mind, like coming here on mylot, or watching some mind engrossing movie, or doing some jobworks. That is my way of tackling my past.

Hi vandana, I think you are doing the best thing, diverting your mind and mylot is a good place to get involved with. I have seen many of your replies and under an impression that you have a good writing skill. So please utilize your skill rather than worrying about past. Human life is like that we can’t expect happiness always; in fact life is mixed with both. Just concentrate on the present and enjoy the life. Thanks for sharing. Have a nice time.

Hi Sreekala! Well, the past should be treated as what it is. Something that already happened and will be like that forever. We call it past because it already passed, so we shouldn't worry about it unless it affects to our actual actions. I try to always look forward, and if a past action ended up in something negative in the present, I work to make the negative consequence be part of the past too, so my present moment is good :)
