I opened cab windows to let previous passenger's body odor out!

It is really difficult to hail a taxicab when it is getting dark and everyone is going home from work or school. My daughter and I had been hailing a number of them before we were lucky to have one that stopped where we stood because a passenger was disembarking. As we embarked, the first thing that we noticed was the very striking foul body odor that was inside the taxicab. It was so obnoxious that I requested that I open the windows to diffuse the odor. What do you think of people not taking care of proper hygiene? Why do you think some people don't notice that they smell bad and can already disturb or "inflict" the good senses of others around? Do you take a bath daily and change to a fresh clothing daily? Please share your thoughts. Thanks.

Hi MMT, This is normal case not only in taxi/cabs but usually in public buses and trains. there is no way of letting the smell of bad odor but to open the window. but what if you don't have the chance to do it or you are not allow to do it...well, just bear with it and pray that your destination is just a block away so you can breath freely out of the stinking smell.

Hi, msfrancisco. That was the only thing to do under the circumstances, lol. We cannot choose another taxicab at that time and place because of the scarcity of taxicabs and the abundance of passengers lining up to get a taxi ride. Patience and the "quick-to-the-draw" grab of hankies made our way home, hahahaha. It would be another story if it were an air-conditioned bus and you are not allowed to open the windows. In some cases, it is the taxi driver that smells, too, shhhh. What I normally do if that is the case, I tell him that I am feeling dizzy and needed fresh air. . Surely, I get more fresh air as I reach my destination and disembark. Have a nice day!

Hi, agoenxz. Bathing and changing into fresh clothes daily will really prevent us from being smelly. Sometimes, people are so used to their smell that they no longer notice their foul odor, to the inconvenience of other people. In warm countries like ours, it is much necessary to take a bath once or even more times a day. It is not enough just to take a bath. It is very necessary to change into clean clothes after bathing. Getting into clothes that smell because they have already been worn makes a person smell the more. It is just proper to maintain good hygiene and proper caring of our bodies. Thanks for sharing. Have a nice day.

I have sat in a restaurant by some people who did not smell to clean. Lucky for me they left before I got my food or I would probably had to get it to go. Some people just do not know or won't use deodorant. I think they are just use to their smell.

You are right. You are the same with the other discussants on your opinion that some people are so used to their own smell that maybe, these people are thinking that all other people smell the same as they do, too! hahahaha. They need to be advised by someone close to them to use deodorants which are easily available in the market. I was glad they left before you got your food. It would have been very difficult having to eat it with a stinky smell nearby, lol.

Ughh! MMT, just by reading your post makes me want to puke! I could imagine how bad the smell was. I think it is not easy to talk about proper hygiene with someone even when you know this person. They will become very sensitive about this issue and some people might be very comfortable with their own body odor that they never thought that it will disturb others. I would normally take a bath twice daily and if the weather is too hot and I sweat a lot, I, myself, don't feel comfortable being around people.

Hi, corry. It was what as you had imagined how bad it was. I didn't want to alight and look for another taxicab which was very scarce at that time. Yes, it is not easy to talk about it with the person even if you know him. That happened to us in the workplace. It was so terrible that he had bad odor and bad breath at the same time. Nobody had successfully advised him about it... there were attempts but no one dared. It put us in a very awkward situation where we just refrained from going near him or avoid him.

It is really bad that people don't take time out to take care of themselves but it is up to us to let them know why it is good to maintain proper hygiene. I can't stay a day without taking a bath and sometimes when it is warm, I do so more than once.

It is sad why they don't take care of proper hygiene. I think it would be an awkward thing to do having to tell them about this. This is especially so when you don't know the person himself. Even if you know the person, it is a difficult thing to advise him. This happened to us with one of our co-workers. I think it should be the partner or children to tell him about it and advise him to use deodorants.

Those with body odour are not aware that they smell so bad and that applies to bad breath also. Even if some have a bath everyday they still smell and the only way to keep it under check is to use a deodarant. Someone close to them should tell them this fact.

Hi, allknowing. Thank you for your thoughts. Well, maybe you are correct there. Some people may not be aware how bad they smell. That reminds me of a co-worker who really smelt bad (may his soul rest in peace). Everyone avoided him because of it and because of his bad breath, too. It was the common problem for us, his co-workers and one thought of writing a note to him and surreptitiously insert it on his drawer and telling him about it. It never happened as we thought it might just embarrass him. We just had to avoid getting close enough to him when there was a need to talk to him about things.

some people are just so used to their own funk, they don't notice. there are a few that can't help it too, something's wrong with their body chemistry. but yea,for the rest of us,it's nasty. they always seem to be on overfull city buses too.

Lol to that, but that seems to be true. They seem not to notice how smelly they get. They don't notice how people feel about it. I wonder why the other members of his household didn't tell him. The partner should be the one to do that or other close friends. We cannot help it, there are people who don't have proper hygiene to the detriment of others.

That is really disgusting. Are you sure it wasn't the driver? I can't imagine that a person can't smell themselves and know they stink. I take a shower each and everyday and change all of my clothing everyday. You would think these people would be embarrassed or something.

I was sure it wasn't the driver, (I didn't smell him, though), lol. It was the man who alighted from the taxicab who really has it. We stood just right at the cab's door and I could identify the same smell as he passed by us. It is always clean to take a shower each day. We should change to a clean clothing after showering and not wear the same unwashed soiled and smelly clothes.

I also experience the same almost everyday. In public transport especially, there are girls whose hair stinks. I guess they just wet their hair as if they have taken a bath. Men especially smells like vinegar even in the morning. I guess they just jump out of their bed and head for work without even cleaning their body. Some really are not conscious with their personal hygiene.

This happens. We just don't understand why this has to happen, though. In some days, they might be smelling good, though, lol. Or maybe, you have chanced upon them on that day not having water service the night before and haven't had bath that morning, lol. On other days, they might have taken a bath and smell clean, hahaha. Seriously, there are people who are inconsiderate to other people's feelings. It is a fact that people are unique. We don't act and think alike. We just have to accept some sad facts and some "foul smell" of life, hahaha. God bless and thanks for sharing.

It helps to take a bath daily. But some people have a strong odor that can't be helped by bathing alone. Yes, I agree with you. They need to use deodorants to "hold the smell at bay", lol. Their partners or children should advise them on this.
