I think girls and boys need to know basic cooking...not necessary gourmet stuff...but basic things. REal cooking can be left for people who really love to learn cooking..be it girls or boys. I have two boys...my older one was (and is) always interested in cooking. Right from when he was really young, he would come into the kitchen with me...ask me how things are made..what to do. Now he can make a simple sandwich..tea...omlette..etc. He is 9 years old. My younger son is too young...so I can't say how he is going to be....but he will be taught some basic cooking when he is ready.

Hi saphilpadhiyar: The answer is yes, we, the boys should learn to know how to cook simply because this is not a women's work anymore. And it's not only because of marriage and equality that both boys and girls should learn to these thing but their own but because it's necessary. If you are a single boy and you live alone, in general i think that you will not be able to go to a restaurant everyday so it's better that you know how to cook. Thanks for opening this discussion. Have a nice day.

yes everyone should know how to cook themselves a meal. It's a personal decision how far to take your cooking after that but it is ridiculous how many grown adults can't follow a simple recipe. I even know of someone who didn't know how to boil themselves an egg!!

Definitely. Everyone should be independent enough, therefore, there is no exception to everything... Both gender should know how to cook.. what if a guy is living alone in his own place?.. practically, he must know how to cook for himself...

I think that guys should definitely learn how to cook. Not only is it a good skill to have, but it allows you to be creative and make food that you enjoy. When you're cooking, you have control over the kitchen and the meal. I know a lot of guys that enjoy cooking. Besides, if a girl isn't around and you don't know how to cook, you either end up eating a microwaveable meal or going out to eat.

I think boys should also learn to cook. There are times when your mom, wife or daughter is not home for 1, 2 weeks, then it becomes a real problem. If you know to cook then there is no problem, otherwise you will end up eating out.

i find it perfectly normal for boys to learn cooking. Rather i think that as we are moving to nuclear families both husband and wife should know how to cook especially if you are averse to packed food. My husband is always there to help me when i am not well. He has over time learnt some cooking and is supportive enough to be in the kitchen when i need him. We find this very normal to be there to do work collectively.

Why is this question asked so often? Is there some reason they should not be taught to cook?? The best chefs in the world are men. Men are naturals when it comes to cooking...not only are they very good at it but they also enjoy it immensely. Why is this question not asked of girls??? Can someone explain please? Or is cooking presumed an instinctive thing in girls the same as motherhood? For that matter...why cooking?? Why not house-keeping or gardening or basic mechanics? Boys and girls who are going to drive should know how to open their bonnet/hood, check their oil and water, brake fluid and power steering fluid levels. They should know where to find their spare tyre and how to change it and they should no to repair a faulty spare. What's wrong with knowing how to vacuum or dust, do laundry, how to use a hammer and screw driver and what glue should be used where or when it's time to call in a repairer. I think it's deplorable in this day and age where females are still lumbered with the drudgery of housework while the males get to be waited on in this area while they sit on their backsides or are out having fun.

Hello! I think boys do should learn cooking! This is not a century when only women do cooking or house cleaning. I think if a woman is working as hard as man, I don' think only physical job here, then man can work/help at home as well. However, there are still man that don't do anything at home, not washing up, not cooking, not washing cloth because they think that it is under their respect and all these stated job are just for women. I don't agree with these types of man. And for me it is really sad to hear such stories or to see it in real. Women should be respected and loved. Sorry, I went a little bit onther direction with this topic ;) hope you don't mind. But generally speaking = of course boys should learn cooking!!!

Hi, sah. Yes, men do need to learn how to cook. When they live by themselves they will have to eat. And also if they get married and have a family of their own, someday they will need to know the basis of cooking. A man's role is just as important as a woman's role. In our home, if my husband has to cook, he will. I do most of the cooking and cleaning. But we share in this equally at times to. A boy has to learn how to cook, he will be a man someday and this is very much needed.

I think whoever is able to, should do the cooking. It just happens that I am the one who makes the least, and works the least outside of the home. So, I do the cooking. When I give birth to our son, I will be at home more, and that will continue. I will teach my child how to cook as well as other things, as I want him to be prepared in many ways for what the world has to offer.

It would not hurt for boys to learn to cook. Some of the greatest chef are male so I would figure that they had to learn how to cook when they were younger.

Hi salhil~ I definitely think that boys should learn how to cook! It is most definitely necessary for everyone to know how to cook in this day and age! Women need all the help that they can get! Some women go to work, take care of the children and need their husbands or sons to be able to pitch in and help make the meals! And if a man lives alone he is going to need cooking skills at sometime in his life! If men can be chefs, why shouldn't they cook at home too!lol

Absolutely! Not every guy gets married, and some don't get married until they live on themselves for several years. If they don't have at least some of the cooking skills, they will be doomed to eating out every meal. They can be very unhealthy and expensive! Even if they get married right away, its a great idea for them to be able to cook sometimes and give their wives a big break. Cooking together can be such a fun. Even in all the restaurants we see men only as sheaf and they cook so delicious. But don't forget to clean the kitchen afterwards. Good Luck, Happy Cooking and Mylotting.

hi sahilpadhiyar20, you have a great discussion, Yes, i agree that it is necessary for Boys to learn cooking. Why? comparing to our previous ancestral ways of living, now is different, we are a trend of blast social change. before, cooking is the role of only women, but now? due to social changes and adaptations? a lot things was revolutionize, re-invented and transformed for people to survive in the present economy. I firmly believe that there should be no one be deprived of skills and talents. Learning cooking is an art..Anybody can have it, either male or female, it does does not matter at all. Gender will never be an issue. If a male person has the art of loving to cook? he must be given that chance to prove what he got and share his talents to others too.. and what if in a situation, he was in the middle of the island and has nobody to be with for him to survive? therefore, if he knows how to cook as learning the ABC of cooking in the most simplest way? he can survive well. Having the knowledge in cooking is a skill, well develop one is a talent, and who knows? he will be recognized by people for his art. Since, we are gifted with body and mind, why not use all the possible talents you can have? and be productive for future use. There are many guys who has expertise in cooking. for boys, either cooking for a necessity, or by profession? it is a big breakthrough contribution to the society.. hence, for nowadays, it is an asset for a boy who knows how to cook..It gives a feeling of independence and adaptation to survive in fast growing world.
