Any teaching assistants out there? I'd like some advice!

I'm thinking of becoming a teaching assistant in my daughter's primary (elementary) school. (Although not in her class as I want to give her her own space!) I love children and think I'd really enjoy working with them, and I'm passionate about maths in particular (which I know makes me a bit of a weirdo, lol!) - although I'm not the best at disciplining naughty children or refereeing disagreements! I'm thinking that the hours would tie in with my daughter's school hours, and seeing as TAs are in demand, then hopefully I could find a job in a school near home. I'm waiting to do some work experience in the school so that I can make sure that I like the work and see whether or not I'd be good at it. And if the work experience goes well then I'm thinking that a teaching assistant qualification would probably be the best way forward, to learn exactly how things are supposed to be done! Did you do a TA qualification? Which sort is it, and would you recommend it? What's the best kind of qualification to get? There are a lot of online courses around now, but are these courses actually worth doing, given that you don't get graded on any classroom experience? What does your job entail? Do you enjoy it? What are the benefits? Is it worth it for the salary that you get???! Any advice would be very welcome!

hi liquorice. Maybe you are not there, after 2 years. I hope somebody will see this discussion. I like your topic. I want to be an English teacher. I think you are right. For the begin could be better to be an teacher assistant. Nowaday online teachers can has a lot of students. Maybe they can't manage very good their classes alone. You are right. I'll look for teacher assistant to teach or to practice foreign languages. For awhile I'll study yet English.
