How do you feel about being put in a nursing home?

I'm sorry to hear that. My grandma also passed away while she was residing in a nursing home (although she was in the hospital at the time). She loved living in the nursing home, however. I guess that makes me have a more positive outlook on it perhaps.

My Grandma had Alzhimers (sp?) So, she was not really there. I have actually had 2 great Grandma pass away in nursing homes also. I have worked as a CNA before in a nursing home, I know what goes on....I actually worked in the nursing home in Michigan where the 2 CNAs were killing the patients in alphabetical order. It was crazy! They are in prison now, thank goodness!

I might not like it but I would live with it. My main thing is I dont want to be a burden on my family. i.e. for expenses for care or that sort of stuff.

I actually work in a nursing home...there are pros and cons. Pros...You just have to push a little button and you can get whatever you want! You get to take as many naps as you want to. You have alot of company and people to talk to. You dont have to worrry about taking the right medicine at the right time. Con's sometimes you have to sit in a dirty diaper for a few minutes before CNA's change you. You get woke up in the middle of the night to take meds. You can sleep as much as you want as long as your roomate isnt crazy and screams all night. Illness seams to spread fast in a nursing home...I dont think I would mind living in a nursing home as long as it was assisted living and not Long Term Care.

I wouldn't want to be put in a nursing home. The only reason I would want to be in a nursing home is if my family couldn't care for me any longer and it's a very good home.

hum well how come they cant take care of me? they got to dump me on someone else after i spent years of my life taking care of them? coming to me for help and money ..now suddenly i am to old to matter so just dump me off on someone else eh? i wouldnt like it abit..

I used to think that way, but I've thought a lot about it and I really think I'd rather go to a nursing home, provided it's a nice clean one, where I'll be well cared for and can make friends and everything. I really don't want my kids bossing me around and stuff, plus I don't want to be a burden to them.
