What Is The Weather Like Where You Are?

Hi! It's damp, dark and depressing here in Carlisle, Cumbria. No blue sky at the moment, just horrible, low clouds overhead. I don't like the winter months but I look forward to 21st December because it becomes lighter each night by about 3 minutes! Currently, it is dark before 4pm! I believe it is worse in Sweden because it never becomes light during the winter? Is that correct? If that is so they must all have S.A.D. I know I would! I do love the summer but only when it is hot enough to wear short sleeves. I wish there was somewhere in the world that is like that all the time. My ideal would be to live somewhere that rains overnight and is sunny all day. Then, we wouldn't have to worry about drought or floods because every day would be perfect! Does anywhere like this exist I wonder? Let me hear your views! :-)

Hi Janey, We have a great weather here in the Philippines right now. We can already feel the breeze of christmas during the night. In the morning we enjoy the bright sunlight. Thanks god we're through with heavy rains and typhoons. If you love the rain and have an experience with it...our country is the best place for you friend! hope you can visit our country soon!

Yes, I have heard about the rain there! The thing that strikes me about Philippinos is that you all seem to be so friendly. Are you a religious nation? I wish people here weren't so insular although I'm guilty of it. I have no idea what my neighbours' names are I am ashamed to say. We could learn a thing or two from your nation...and your English is a lot better than some so-called English people too, especially the youngsters. You've only got to look at the Sky News website to see the comments posted there. The spelling and grammar...atrocious!!

i am happy and honored that you have a good impression about our country. yes, we are very religious. i am a catholic. our medium of teaching here is english and we only have one Philippine subject--Filipino. That's why we are lucky enough to be exposed in english since childhood. anywhere we go we can easily adjust to language, culture and people. i hope one day you can come here and i will tour you around! we have a beautiful country!

by the way... as it relates to spelling and grammar i still appreciate people trying to express themselves and convey the message that they want to share. we are not the same in our curriculum but the mere fact that they are trying their best to communicate with us...it's a pleasure to interact with them. i know i am also not that good in english but in my own simple way i try to be clearly understood in expressing myself here.

Here in The Philippines you can feel already the cold breeze of cool air. It's more comforting than last month where it's humid even at late night. No more rains at last. We are tired of rains that comes in our land. It's a terrible thing to remember about the typhoons that hit our country. During midday. It's hot but tolerable. But if you are not from here. You wont take the humid kind of weather here. That's why my countryman love to go to malls for free and comforting feeling care of the mall aircons.

Yes we have. Theyre donation from all over the world. Positive karma to all of them. It just not only the donation. There is also a professionals like psychologist, engineers, doctors, architects that volunteer to help my countryman deal with traumatic experience brought about the effects of the typhoon. Children are among the victims that suffered more. Many of them lost their love one in the typhoon.

Well, I live in the United States near Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It is really nice weather here year round. Today the weather was very nice. It was 85 degrees Farenheit and will get down to 68 degrees Farenheit. (Around 20 - 29 Celsius) It will be the same tomorrow. And it is mostly clear to partly cloudy. Florida is known as "The Sunshine State". Sorry it is not so warm there in Great Brittain. We are just over hurricane season here and we will probably be in shorts for Christmas. Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

Our weather sounds a lot alike. Where I am it's so cold and gray. It just snowed a few inches the other day, and it's really dry, meaning dry skin and chapped lips :( The wind chill is about -25 and is supposed to be getting colder by the day.. were supposed to get up to about 10 inches of snow by tomorrow. I'm not complaining too much though, where my relatives are its getting as low at -38 already.. yikes.

Hi janey1966, Funny you asked this question. Recently, like only 2 days ago, I've begun to feel the effect of winter. Temperature is going down by .2 of a degree (celcius) every day. However, here in Malta, it is crazy weather. Most of the year, it is hot and lately, starting in December there has been very strong cold winds with lots and lots of rain. For example, 3 days ago it rained non-stop for 27 hours. Although it gets cold here in Malta, it never falls below 0, in fact every year the opposite of cold is happening. Every year, in Malta, the max temperature in Summmer is rising by 1 degree celcius and the max temperature in winter is also climbing by 1 degree celcius. This summer that has just happend was probably the hottest summer ever recorded here in Malta with a max of 46 degrees celcius. I believe that most of this is a result of the green house effect which I will explain. On earth's atmosphere, there is a very light gas of air called Ozone. The sun produces a lot of heat and whenever its rays come to earth, the Ozone blocks some of it and the rest get through. Unfortunately, because of pollution from cars and factories, because of the gas Carbon Dioxide (C02) and Carbon monoxide (C0) the Ozone is being "eaten" and these days, whenever the sun's rays enter the earth, only little amounts of it will leave the earth. Therefore, with the continues heating of our planet, temperatures are rising as well as ice caps are melting and water level is rising. The more we pollute, the more the earth will heat up so therefore we must try to pollutle less and help our planet.

Hi I had no idea there has been such extreme weather in Malta. That is what's so interesting about this site (and the internet in general) as we educate each other about what is going on in this world. Let's hope something positive happens in Copenhagen over the next 2 weeks.

I too was unaware of the extremity of climactic changes in Malta. Where I live I doubt we really notice it with summertime temps in the 110's and 120's Farenheit. One degree more or less is not that important to us. In fact I have always maintained that they might as well just break the needle off at 110 and anything after that is just labeled "Dammed hot!" We try to leave the house as little as possible during the summer months but otherwise it is usually between 64 an 100 all year round except from the middle of spring to Christmas when it is a blast furnace. I live in the Southern California "Inland Empire" the Coachella Valley, Palm Springs to be exact.

Its about 80 degrees here in Florida. I'm near disney world. It was raining for a few days and cold for here, but now its back to sunny old Florida. Its very warm here compared to other places in the United States but what's not to love other than no snow? Some people hate the snow and that is why they come here during winter.

Hi! I'm beginning to think Florida is the best place to be. No wonder people go there to escape the winters elsewhere. Some of our Pensioners spend the Winter in Benidorm, Spain because they can't afford to heat their homes and it's cheaper living over there for the colder months than to stay here!

I live in Palm Springs, California in the Inland Empire of Southern California 2 hours directly above Mexico and headed toward the Equator. Where I live temps can to 120 farenheit in the Summer and cold daytime temps for us in the winter are in the 60's. Today it is 48 farenheit and raining. That is okay, today is only the third or fourth time all year that it has rained and the last time that it snowed in Palm Springs was well over 20 years ago. We inhabit the same desert as the city of Las Vegas,Nevada. Except being 5 hours southwest makes it just a bit hotter here. I know I grew up in Las Vegas, which has seen snow in the last 20 years. Only once but I was there when it did. Though the high desert, (around 20-30 miles) up into the foothills around the Coachella Valley has temps 10-15 degrees cooler both summer and winter and occasionally once every 5-10 years they will get snow that will stick for maybe an hour or so and then it melts and is gone. I love the desert. We have a lot of Brits, Europeans, and Canadians who make their winter homes here.

Hi! What an interesting comment, thank you! You should work in Tourism because I want to board a plane right now! On Sky News there were pictures of snow in Las Vegas a few months ago. We got married there and it was so weird seeing snow on all the landmarks we had seen on our visit when it was glorious sunshine. When we are old and grey I think me and hubby will emigrate to Las Vegas. We wouldn't get bored and the houses there are HUGE for the money. Fabulous place, love it!

Hi! You seem to get distinct seasons, am I right? In the UK it seems to be similar weather the whole year round which is why we all get jumpy whenever there's more than a couple of days of hot sun or extreme cold. We're such wusses (is that the right spelling)?!

Hi there. In Somerset, England is is cold, windy and rainy. I got soaked through this morning because there was a terrible downpour of rain. The sky looked gray today and now it is dark. I think I have SAD seasonal affective disorder. The cure would be a holiday on a tropical island. I was looking in a travel agents window and saw some tempting offers. When I was 19 years old I visited St Lucia and luckily it rained at night and was dry in the day. There is a beautiful green landscape there and white sandy beaches. I have been to other tropical destinations like the Cook Islands after a hurricane had hit it. Weather tends to vary and follow seasonable patterns.

The weather here is just like any other Winter. It's cold, cloudy & snowy! We have a big snow storm coming out way. Were getting Rain, Sleet & snow by wed and all thru the weekend, yuck! I hate living where I do because of the prolonged winters! But it's unusual for us just getting snow on Dec 9th because we usually have snow by thanksgiving. But thankfully the weather held out for us this year and the 50/60 degree weather stayed longer! Won't be like this every year though. Wish it could be!

Hi! Thanks for your comment. I suppose we all get fed up with whatever we get a lot of...whether it be hot sun without any rain for days on end...or lots of snow that never seems to go away. Here in the UK we had an extremely mild, dry October then all hell let loose in November where we had November's rainfall...and October's too. That is why there were floods in Towns near to where I live. Workington was split in half due to a bridge collapsing and those who had to drive to work had a 2 hour round trip whereby it used to take about 15 mins! At least there is a temporary pedestrian bridge constructed by the Royal Engineers (bless 'em) that opened today. That will enable schoolchildren to walk to school as opposed to horrendous, long car journeys they have had to endure the past 2-3 weeks or so.

Janey1966. Where I am at. It is very cold and clear. I guess it can be in the 40s as of now. It is around 6 in the evenings. I like the weather the way that it is. It makes me feel relaxed. It gets dark here around five. I like the time change. We had rain all last week, but it has been fine for now. I hope that it stays that way because we have had mixed weather like crazy here. All the reason for someone to catch the flu.

It is easy for me to tell that winter is rapidly approaching here in Lexington, KY. There has been no sun today and only the heavy clouds that make the entire day feel gray. It is really depressing. I hate that there is so little sunlight during this part of the year. It makes me feel depressed because I can't be outside. It is already starting to get dark when my daughter gets home from school and it is totally dark by the time that my husband gets home from work. The only thing during the winter that would really make me happy is when there is snow on the ground because when there is snow, even when the weather is dreary, it is brighter because the light does reflect off of the snow.

Hi What do the letters KY stand for? I guess it's Kentucky is it? I know what you mean about snow...and no sunlight is bad, I don't like that either. When the sun does come out in this part of the world we get that beautiful blue sky without clouds...it's mostly grey and rainy though, typical Brit weather really!

Wow, that is mild isn't it! I admire people in places like Moscow because they are sooo used to the extreme cold in the winter time. They just get on with their everyday lives and there is no fuss, unlike here when we get "flurries" of snow and people stay off work because of it!

Yes, I know what you mean. I do love the Springtime here as we have daffodils that come up everywhere it seems. A lot of gardeners place bulbs in their gardens roundabout now so the "daffs" come up around March. Bright yellow (or orange and yellow) and they're gorgeous!

HI Janey1966; The weather here is cold it just snowed this weekend and now it very windy to the point where it makes everything worse. I love the fall and spring time weather for it stays in the 70s anything above 75 seems to be a little to hot. Here I don't have to worry about floods, tornadoes or hurricanes but we do worry about droughts. It gets dark after 5:30pm and the sun rises around 6/7 am. I didn't know that it gets lighter after or on the 21st of December. Neat. Have a great day and stay warm.

The reason for it getting lighter after 21st December is that it does this ready for Spring when the clocks go forward one hour, then the reverse happens in October! Apparently, it is called Daylight Saving Time. Not surprisingly, I look forward to the summer months because we have sooo much daylight and the very latest it goes dark will be about 10pm. I can't wait!

The weather where I live is pretty moody- it changed a lot and is really irregular. Today it snowed for the first time this season, and it snowed a lot. This morning it was cloudy and grogy, but now the sun's come out and about 1/4 of the snow melted...no doubt it'll freeze into hard ice tonight. w
