paying for or illegally downloading music

I was recently surprised to find out that many of my friends were illegally downloading their music instead of buying it. Many of them stated that they were having a hard time financially and they felt like the famous musicians and big record labels didn't need their money. I feel that this is the wrong attitude and that the musicians are artists and deserve to be paid for the work that they have done. If people continue to have this "why should I pay for something I can get for free?" attitude, I am afraid that it will dissuade young musicians from wanting to start a career making music.

I agree with you that this amounts to stealing even though many persons are saying that teh artists are rich but you have taken something that doesnt belong to you and many are even selling it.Imagine that taking something from someone and not pay for it and then making a profit from it.You are right ,many young musician arent motivated to start their music career

I think downloading music is not a bad thing per se, even some artists agree to this and just want there music to be heard. I think it's nicer that people can get music for free and enjoy all kinds of music.. It turned out that musiclovers who download a lot of music will still be CD's anyway, more than people who don't download.. But it's also good for my wallet that I don't have to buy every album, this way I can check it out, enjoy the good music and delete garbage (which I had keeped if I had bought the album, even if I don't like the album..)

If I had to pay for music I would not be able to have any and I can't live without Music. Music is and Always has been my way to escape so without that I cant live so if I have to rip off the poor ole music companies then so be it.

Hi The problem is with the system people used to download music in almost most of the websites it is really a big loss for musician but for the people who host the websites its a business. Devices like audio tapper and TV tapper plays a major role here for pirated music Regards Kannan

Pirating FTW! Well singers make a lot of money from their tours. For example Madonna earned hundreds of millions dollars from her last Sticky and Sweet tour! It is gonna be okay for the singers! Beware of the Bad Wolf!

I buy music from artists that I respect. Underground artists or band that I think are really talented I always make sure to buy their CD because I respect them and I want them to succeed. However, I do sometimes pirate individual singles from artists like Lil' Wayne, Akon, etc., because I don't really respect them as artists. That's just my personal opinion though. Cheers!
