Ya, Here I go again thinking....................................................

Well, I was just thinking that whenever I plan something, no matter how well I do plan things never turn out exactly as I had thought it would. Like today I go to the store and was looking to replace a tv I had in my room that had given up on me. I found a nice Emerson brand LCD tv for less than the other ones because it had been used for a display. I thought all was cool and I would get it set up at home and be able to watch some movies I had bought online and received early and my grnd daughter could also use it for her computer game. Okay. So all is fine. I get it home and go to set it up. Come to find out there is no stand with it. I am not happy. I call the manufacturer and find that the stand will cost enough so that the tv is not actually a good deal at all but will end up costing me the same as a normal one from their inventory would have ended up costing me. Oh well. Life goes on. So i am having one sent to me and I should have the working tv set up in about a week. Have you had this happen to you? You figure things will go a certain way and then find some complication that makes things not work out as they were supposed to?? Murphy's Law or ? Things just never seem to go as planned.

I know exactly what you mean! Things never work out like I plan them..lol..Simple things can often be the most difficult thing to get done. I thought I was the only one...nice to know there is a kindred spirit out there that is sharing my frustration sometimes.

Frustration is the word for sure. I should have checked it before I left the store. Learning experience.

Hi celticeagle, Things like that happen to me all the time and it is always annoying. It is great to think you are getting a bargain but to then realise you need some extras to make it work or worth is is a pain. Yes it is Murphy's law indeed, I have read books on the subject and still never manage to avoid it

My Dad thought me at an early age to check the contents of any box before you bring it home, he would always do it. I do sometimes but when you are rushing about at this time of the year it is not always possible. I think the TV manufacturer have a bit of the blame in your case though. I too would expect a stand to come with the TV as standard, especially with an LCD.

It didn't say "as is" or anything on the label they put on it. It said "Display" and that was all. I should have checked and I learned a lesson.

What did the store do with the stand? If demo they should have it there. I would be hollering at the store too for they had to have had that stand to display it. grrrrrrrrr I just hate getting things home and stuff missing. If I have to return something I make sure every thing is in the box that came with it. I also look at the way things are packaged in the store as that can tell you if someone has had it before you. then I dont buy

Wasnt it on a stand when ya bought it? if so thats your stand! I would have gone back to the store and raised some hell that they didnt pack it in there nope it was a display surpose to sell it cheaper. and every thing is to go back in the box. I hope you dont have to pay for this stand!

I called and asked them just that very question. The gal that finally answered said they were very busy and she would have somebody go back in the back and check when she could. That was almost a week ago and I haven't heard anything. I would have called back and bugged them BUT, I am on the vurge of an anger episode and I would hate to take it out on the poor sales clerk that answered(unless it was her again). I probably should but I figure they put it out there cheap figuring they could sell and the base could be replaced. It said on the label that was on that it had been used as a display so I figure they just lost the base. They sold it for the price that it would be minus the stand and the stand will be here at some point before 2010!

Celticeagle, So they only charged you for the t.v. and not the stand? They must have lost it, I think sometimes the one hand doesn't know what the other one is doing, so one could have "placed" it somewhere and not let anyone else know...

I would have called the store I bought it from to see if they had a stand, if they didn't I'd take it back to the store after calling the manufacturer and finding out how much the stand would be. I'd get one of those other t.v.'s. Now is their shipping and handling involved in the stand's delivery? If not then I may consider buying the stand too... but well I guess it all depends on how bad I needed / wanted the t.v. and how aggravated I was at the store, etc.

I am happy for you that you find the stand although it must have cost you an arm and a leg. I was workign for call centre where the manufacture dont send the stand or the cables etc. And if u order or were direct to best buy and it was so costly. I still remember clients shouting that they were robbed in day light. So there is nothing wrong with your planning, but this time their planning well planned :)

The amount of the base is just the amount marked off of the tv so it works out okay.

Oft times, I feel like "heronymous Merkin"...the little guy with the black cloud over his head, carrying Murphy's Law script. Since December 1st, I have been planning a town trip (I live on a small Island, only accessible by Ferries!) Two days off Monday & Tuesday----the last 3 weeks, the Ferries have been cancelled those days, due to high winds. Getting scary...as I have NOT done Christmas shopping...nor grocery shopping! And there is a lot of truth, to opening the box in the store.....many times (not anymore) I have got home, to find pieces/parts missing...to collect those parts is another lost whole day, plus Ferry fare, to collect the needed parts...DARN MURPHY! Have a great day...and Cheers!

All the time .....always ....always. Story of my life. To be honest tho...I am so used to this sort of situation that I probably would have improvised. Did you really need their stand? Couldn't you have gotten a stand from walmart or something really cheap? I would have probably set it up on the floor and been good until I could find something reasonable that would work. I don't have and never have had a LCD tv so I'm not sure how important the stand is. Obviously...I could land in your situation quite easily.

Well, how nice you guys could get together. I had thought of setting the tv up on the floor also but what I set it up against has my dvd player on it so that wouldn't work. I should have the base in another 2 to 5 business days. So that is next Monday at the earliest.

Hi sid just popping in to say "Hi" The TV manufacturers are clever and most TVs need the right stand for the TV, it would be a good idea if they just standardise the stands,. I think it is just a way to get more cash out of people. Hows the business going ? Hope all is well

Welcome to life! I guess if you plan something out and it doesn't turn out that way its then considered a learning experience. I've planned stuff out but you can't control what will happen, sometimes you can't even control what won't happen. I know by starting this discussion there will be people who buy a tv and then ask for a stand and find out its a separate purchase based on your experience.

Hey celtic! I am "Ms. Murpy's Law"! I am the Queen of that lovely law! I can't tell you how many times things like that has happened to me! It just seems like everything i d or buy works out that way! There is always some kind of hidden problem no matter what I do! So, I am used to it, kinda! And to say the least it is extremely annoying! So, what can I say? When you buy something that is a display item you are bound to have some sort of problem, hence the lower price!

I thought it was just because of the DISPLAY that it was lower priced. Should have checked.

I think that is the joy of life: Unexpected events. Because we know this, we are prepared. By the way, while it is called "Murphy's Law" (named by a contractor's project manager for Capt. Edward A. Murphy USAF), it hails from Sod's Law (because it would happen to any poor sod who needed such a catastrophic event the least.)

Hello celtic, oh yes these type of things happen all the time I just try to chalk them up to the stumbles of life. I never fully plan anything out too much because there always seems to be something that gets in the way even if it is something small like taking a road trip and having to make a ptty stop which them puts you behind by a few minutes. When you have kids you can never fully plan things out because there always seems to be something that comes up....like you said though life goes on....what can we do?
