Motives for Contributing to MyLot

I was just curious what people's primary motive was when you signed up for this site? Has your primary motive changed since you've been signed up? How long have you been a member here, and how often do you participate? Do you tend to both start and respond to discussions? Or do you favor one over the other? I signed up for this site a couple of years ago when I was unemployed with my main motivation being I wanted to make some extra money. I remember spending about 2 hours, everyday for the better part of a year, giving quality responses to discussions of my interest, and starting a couple new discussions everyday too. I may have been doing something wrong, but I didn't view my time spent on here as particularly profitable...not in terms of how much time I spent on the site. But, I did see and still see the site as a very valuable tool in terms of helping people, be that advice, directions, support, etc. I found myself spending time on the site as a means to pass the time, and getting and giving a little education in the meantime. Once I found work; however, I stopped surfing the internet all together (except for fantasy football and fantasy baseball purposes-lol). Now that I've been laid off again, I've returned to this site and found my bank to be just over $40! I know $40 is nothing, but I also know I had virtually nothing in my bank when I stopped visiting this site a couple years ago. In any event, I value the information and sincere opinions that most people provide here, and I look forward to partaking in many more discussions to come.

I primarly started posting here because one I can always use extra cash. I have a job sure and I get paid enough to get buy but I could always use extra money especially extra money to set aside in a savings account. When I first started here I was a poor college student and didn't have enough time to actually work a job while taking 18 college credits a semester. I was able to earn about $100 a month online here and through another website and that $100 a month was enough to help pay for gas and a few groceries each month. However, it's gotten a bit harder each month to really earn any money here however I still post because I realize that $10 here and there will defintiely begin to add up especially if I add it to my high yield savings account. What's going to happen if I suddenly need some extra money and can't afford to pay for anything out of my bank account? I only hate that it's getting harder and harder to come here and post. It seems like all the good posts are non existent because we have so many people here that just like clogging up the boards because they think that is the way to get money and it annoys me. So I just come, post what I can and then it seems like I only make a few cents a day. But hey, as long as I'm making some sort of extra money then it's good at least.

wow, how much time were you spending on here a day to earn $100/month? I consider that to be pretty substantial, given my earnings thus far. Did you do something more than just responding to and starting discussions?

My husband was on here for a few days when he showed it to me. I started more because I thought it might be fun. I knew I would never "strike it rich" off here. It was more as a for fun thing then anything. I don't frequent the site as much as I would like to (I run 2 home based businesses and have a 2 1/2 year old). But every time I come on here I find some interesting discussions that get me thinking. I find it's great for brain storming ideas with others that have similar interests and may have a different take on a problem and with that the perfect solution to a problem that I may have never come up with because I'm too close to the issue. There is never anything wrong with getting a set of fresh eyes to look at a situation. Up to this point, I have made a whopping $0.83, none of that in the last few months, so you can see why it was not a big money making plan for me.

hi colonelconclusive I was forcibily retired as she said you are almost eighty, and she got fired for firing me, but the library system wanted me back . I said no, anyway I had fallen and broke my shoulder, so I could no longer use my left arm to shelve books. so I was retired and needed something fun and profitable and I found mylot. I loved the back and forth between'my mylot friends and the sharing and caring. I make enough to pay my internet bill now and that s good. also I just have fun being on here.

Wow, I'm glad there were some repercussions for the person responsible for pushing you out of your position of employment just because of your age. Age is nothing but a number...for the most part. That's great that you make enough from mylot to cover a utility bill every month. I hope to get to the same status.

hello hatley, i wish i could pay our internet bill using only mylot but unfortunately my internet bill would rose from 100 to a hundred fifty dollars a month which is very much high compare to my recent earnings here. although i try so hard to at least reach half of a hundred but still doesn't seem to add up. i feel so sad about this you know.

My primary motive when I first signed up for this site, was the touch of extra money (in hopes of using it to fund other internet ventures) That idea got quickly smashed, however, in the time it took me to realize that this money would come slow, and then be used quick I realized that I had come to enjoy the community that MyLot has to offer. I both learn, and teach, live and grow with other users of the site, we don't always agree and sometimes the opinions of others make my head hurt, or my stomach turn in distaste or non comprehension. But, that is how it is in every part of life. I participate almost daily, I no longer even concern myself with "The Money" part, it goes to pay pal, and pay pal pays subscriptions to some sites of which I am apart. I tend to mostly respond and occasionally post a discussion, not that I can't do it, I just have to feel inspired and be right here at the time of inspiration to make a post worth discussion. I can't help but wonder...What do you do professionally? What do you like most about that? and how long do you figure you will be with out a job? I am happy that you had enough referrals to keep your balance growing a half cent at a time, but growth is growth, and I hope over time we can learn and grow from each other. Cheers. Chysom Scott.

Wow, I have to admit, I had the same idea of using money earned from here to invest in other internet ventures. My efforts to do so were also quickly thwarted. Haha! In any event, like you, I certainly enjoy the community this site offers. I work in commercial construction and the thing I like the most about it is the feeling of accomplishment I get at the end of EVERY day. Unfortunately, I reside in California, which may be in the worst economic state of all 50 states, and in my field of work, I could be out of a job for a while. But, I'll keep my fingers crossed, continue looking for work, and hope for the best, and naturally....continue posting on MyLot.

My very reason on why I joined here is because of monetary gain. I heard that this site will pay you just by responding to a discussion. Awesome isn't it? But when i joined and started to respond to discussions I cant believe that being here is really rewarding because you could be able share your thoughts and ideas in every members. Also I saw very much interesting topics here, i could voice out my feelings without hurting anyone. I guess this site is very much helpful to a person like me.

My primary motive to join the mylot is to make some extra money while i am sitting at home searching for new job. but gradually i learn that for making $10 u have to post 1000 posts and it is going to take a lot of time. So, now i m here to just discuss on topics of my interest. It help me to improve my english and my typing.

Yeah, I think it's a great avenue for people to practice their English. I also use it to keep my typing skill sharp too.

I have to say it has changed from the first time I have signed up and today. Back then when I started here a part of me for joining was to earn even just the minimum. But now I really enjoy reading discussions and commenting even if I only do a few for as long as I get to go on to the myLot website it makes my day. I have to say I get to learn a few things here and there on this site so it really makes my few minutes enjoyable here.

Hello there, colonel, All i have to say is that "it's been an Honor" seeing oldies (mylot veteran)like yourself that you get to come back to this site and start doing mylot again. sadly, just to let you know that this site has changed over the years and it's not as easy to earn the way it used to four years ago. despite of that they were people had gave good advises here on how to earn better. good luck once more exploring mylot and get to see some of your long time online mylot friends. only few them now actually.

For me I was really addicted to visit this site because I enjoyed reading and replying to people's discussions and it makes me happy especially when there are responses to my started discussions. It motivates me to do more discussions. Though I only make a little earnings everyday but I can see progress as my $ moves higher depending on how many discussions I made a day. In some ways I learned from the discussions and gained more ideas from different people's perspective.

When i first signed up i was just going to do it so as to earn a little extra money online and that is why i signed up in the first place. But now i barely think about the earnings i'm making here on mylot, i just like contributing to discussions, having a say and getting really involved with the site =D i think its great. Ive also learnt of other sites to help me earn online through discussions here on mylot. So it can help me in everything i do and teach me new things.
